What are the responsibilities and job description for the Metal fabricator / welder position at Wisconsin Custom Metal Fabrication, Inc.?
We are looking for a metal fabricator/fitter who has experience with custom fabrication of steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. TIG welding is necessary for much of our work and we would prefer a minimum of 3 years of TIG welding experience. Knowledge of setting up welding machines, prepping material, selecting proper weld settings, and selecting proper weld filler metal is necessary.
Wisconsin Custom Metal Fabrication, Inc. is a custom metal fabricator that specializes in high-end architectural storefronts, cladding, interior and exterior finish work, custom rails, structural welding, and low volume production work, with both in shop fabrication and onsite fabrication and installation.
As a fabricator/welder you will not be welding all the time, but also spending time drilling holes, saw cutting material, grinding, polishing, shearing, forming material and whatever else is needed to complete jobs. Occasionally welding, fabrication, and installation of jobs are done in the field. We are looking for a well-rounded employee that can perform many different tasks and operate various machines to complete jobs.
Experience required:
Tape measure – Candidates must be able to proficiently read a tape measure to 1/32”.
Blueprint reading – Minimum 5 years – Candidates must be able to read and interpret prints and sketches, including material type, hole sizes, weld symbols, etc.
Metal fabrication – Minimum 5 years – Candidates must have experience with saw cutting, forming, drilling/tapping holes, shearing. Etc.
TIG welding – Minimum 3 years – Candidates must have experience with welding stainless steel, Steel, Aluminum in thicknesses ranging from 16 gauge to 10 gauge
MIG welding – Minimum 3 years – Candidates must have experience with welding steel, stainless steel, aluminum in thicknesses ranging from 10 gauge to 3/8”
Please be prepared to take a TIG & MIG welding test on light and heavy gauge stainless steel, aluminum and steel.
Some of the job duties are:
Welding:
TIG welding of steel, stainless steel, and aluminum from 0.060" - 0.125"thick
MIG, pulsed MIG, and Flux core welding of steel and stainless steel, 1/8" thick and up.
Plasma cutting / oxy-fuel cutting with hand torches
Fabrication:
-Candidates must be able to read a tape measure to 1/32” of an inch - This is very important!
Fractional and decimal measurements, ability to convert one to the other
(Example: 1/8" =0.125")
Experience in all of the following areas is necessary:
Ability to read prints and shop sketches
Material selection – Being able to tell the difference between material types and thicknesses
Ability to follow and accurately produce a cut list
Safe forklift operation
Laying out hole patterns, drilling and cutting to exact measurements
Drill press, hand drills, tapping / threading
Grinder / cutoff wheels
Experience in all or some of the following areas are helpful:
Power band saw (Marvel saw)
Hydraulic shear
Hydraulic press brake
Plate roller
Hydraulic press
Manual mill
Manual lathe
Stainless steel polishing / finishing
Weld stud gun operation
