Position Overview

The Aggregates Assistant Plant Manager supports the overall leadership, safety, and operational performance of a high-volume quarry operation. This role assists the Aggregates Plant Manager in supervising personnel, coordinating daily plant operations, overseeing maintenance, and driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, and efficiency. The Assistant Plant Manager also serves as acting manager during the Aggregates Plant Manager’s absence.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Responsible for the safety and direction of employees, visitors, and contractors.
- Ensure compliance with MSHA requirements and all company safety policies.
- Promote a culture of safety by acting as a role model and leader in safe work practices.
- Ensure all work at each job site is completed safely and efficiently.
Operational Leadership
- Support daily quarry and plant operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and productivity.
- Assist in the supervision of all operations including daily start-up of plants, production throughout day/night shifts, and overall performance.
- Monitor production schedules and ensure targets are met.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and implement effective solutions.
- Assist with the coordination of drilling, blasting, and pit development.
- Fill in and lead quarry operations during Plant Manager’s absence.
Employee Management
- Assist in supervision of employees including scheduling, timekeeping, performance management, and assignment of duties.
- Coordinate weekly employee scheduling and manage time-off requests.
- Lead, mentor, and develop employees to foster accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to address sensitive situations and maintain positive working relationships.
Maintenance & Projects
- Assist in overseeing daily maintenance operations and special projects.
- Monitor equipment performance and coordinate with maintenance teams to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with leadership to implement process improvements and optimize production efficiency.
Administration & Communication
- Communicate daily with the Plant Manager regarding conditions, progress, and challenges.
- Provide outstanding customer service and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
- Maintain reliable attendance and flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Be available for occasional travel for company training and meetings.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in related engineering discipline or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in aggregates or quarry operations management.
- Strong understanding of aggregate production processes, geology, mining methods, and related regulations.
- Demonstrated leadership skills managing diverse teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills across all organizational levels.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
