Area Manager - Aggregates
The Area Manager leads multiple quarry operations within a defined region, typically producing 1M tons annually. This role focuses on developing plant leaders, driving operational consistency, and aligning operations with sales and construction to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality results.
We’re looking for a people-first leader who builds strong teams, takes ownership of performance, and approaches challenges with a thoughtful, solutions-oriented mindset.
This position is based in Birmingham, AL and will report to the Division Vice President – Aggregates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and develop plant managers, building a culture of accountability and growth
- Ensure safe, consistent, and efficient operations across multiple sites
- Drive cost performance and support budgeting and financial accountability
- Partner with sales and construction teams to align production with demand
- Maintain high standards for quality, process control, and continuous improvement
- Improve equipment reliability through strong maintenance practices
- Support and execute capital projects that enhance operational performance
Requirements:
- 5–10 years of experience in aggregates, mining, asphalt, or heavy civil operations
- Proven leadership experience managing multiple teams or sites
- Strong understanding of, or ability to quickly learn, plant operations, production processes, and cost drivers
- Demonstrated ability to develop people, build teams, and drive performance
- Experience with budgeting, financial performance, and operational planning
- Ability to think critically and develop creative, practical solutions to operational challenges
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across departments
- Willingness to travel regularly between plant locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- Experience working cross-functionally with sales and construction teams
- Background in continuous improvement or operational excellence initiatives
