JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is the first line of supervision for uniform Public Safety personnel. The Public Safety Officer III provides for the safety and security of Winterthur staff, guests, visitors, collections, and assets through being a full time Dispatcher. Public Safety will provide guidance in a professional demeanor to bring all relevant situations to a resolution. Public Safety Officer III will determine actions and send a response to all emergencies, as well as assist in the de-escalation of conflicts on the Winterthur campus. As the first interaction a guest has with a Winterthur employee is often a member of the Public Safety Department, it is important that they provide a warm and welcoming demeanor to guests, visitors, and vendors.

Compensation: Starting at $20.00/hr. bonuses available for those with EMT certification and/or fire department training.

Work Schedule: Two shifts available 12am-8am or 4pm-12am

Responsibilities

Leadership

• Serves as de facto shift leader if Supervisor or Director of Safety & Security is unavailable or not on site.
• Determine response and dispatch investigative actions for any type of incident involving the safety of staff, guests, assets, or property.

Dispatcher

• Monitoring security operating system, HVAC & mechanical alarm systems, estate wide fire system and CCTV systems
• Maintaining a daily shift log of actions, incidents, and notifications during shift
• Property Control- Maintaining proper paperwork for incoming or outgoing property belonging to persons or the Museum
• Communications- proper notifications of personnel during emergency situations, communicating estate wide outages or any other incident that would impact the property or staff
• Staffing- Ensuring full coverage of shift by Public Safety staff. Contact and maintain a log of contact with on call personnel if there is a call out or staffing shortage
• Ensuring that Standard Operating Procedures are followed by Public Safety staff

Security System Management

• Monitoring, first level troubleshooting, and programing of the access control system (AMAG). Including making new employee badges, setting access levels and programing time zones for doors and areas.
• Monitoring, first level troubleshooting, and programing of the video surveillance system (Salient)
• Monitoring, first level troubleshooting, and programing of the video art security system (Art Sentry)

Emergency Procedures

• Follow existing emergency procedures for evacuations due to any fire, flood emergency, or sudden and severe weather conditions that may arise.
• Maintain vigilance for and take proactive steps to correct potentially hazardous situations.
• Policy Enforcement
• Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures governing people, vehicles, and property by all persons on Winterthur property.
• Customer Service
• Exhibit strong customer service skills during any situation, including responding to inquiries from guests, visitors, and suppliers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Experience: High school diploma or equivalent proof of education with some customer service, safety, or law enforcement experience or the ability to learn public safety duties quickly.

Preferred Experience: First Aid Certification with 1 years related public safety or dispatching

Knowledge/Skills:

• Valid driver's license with no conviction for driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol within 3 years of application. Certified copy is to be provided by applicant upon request.
• No convictions for theft or sexually related offenses.
• The ability to talk to people in a friendly manner that gets results.
• A "team" orientation and willingness to collaborate.
• Flexible work days/hours and ability to work some overtime, on occasion with little notice.
• This position requires clear thinking during any situation that may arise with a calm and professional demeanor.
• Proficient oral and written communication skills.
• C.P.R./First Aid certification is preferred. Without prior certification, must be able to pass a written and practical test after attending a training course as designated by Winterthur.
• Basic computer skills, including word processing, accessing and managing a Winterthur provided e-mail account, and navigating the internet
• Ability to utilize computerized security and office systems, after training

Essential Functions:

• Must be able to work within the confines of the Museum or other Collection areas that require tight security and attention to detail.
• Must enjoy dealing with the public in a Cultural Property setting.
• Must be capable of performing C.P.R. /First Aid after training.
• Must be able to climb multiple stairs; at least 9 floors.
• Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods of time; potentially 8 hours or more.
• Must be able to sit in and operate a SUV or Pick-Up type of vehicle for an 8 hour shift.
• Must be able to climb multiple stairs (9 floors), walk or stand for extended periods of time (8 hours).
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Must be able to climb a ladder.
