7-8th Grade Instrumental Music Teacher

TITLE: 7-8th Grade Instrumental Music Instructor

DEPARTMENT: 5-12 Music Department

REPORTS TO: Building Principal7-12 Activities Director

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Director of TeachingLearning and other band instructors

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring a high-quality educational program that meets the individual learning and social-emotional needs of all students.

KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION:

Required:

  • Valid Iowa Teaching License w/ 5-12 Music Endorsement
  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher in Music Education
  • Knowledge of subject, curriculum, and effective teaching practices

Desired:

  • Previous experience in similar position
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and direct a comprehensive instrumental music program..

INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership, supervision and organization in the 7-8th grade instrumental music program
  • Serve as the primary instructor for:
  • 7-8th Grade Band
  • Work with MS and HS Band instructors to create a comprehensive band program that prepares students to perform to the best of their ability.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the District.

CLASSROOM RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, administrative guidelines, or specific program requirements.
  • Conducts student assessments to identify individual student needs to plan instruction, and/or to determine intervention strategies.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides frequent progress reports to parents and students (if applicable).
  • Collaborates with appropriate building and district personnel regarding student needs.
  • Develops a social contract with students within each class they teach that follows the principles of Capturing Kids Hearts.
  • Develops and communicates reasonable expectations of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Contacts parents frequently regarding student improvement and conducts conferences.
  • Implements all district policies and expected practices.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adheres to the Iowa Teaching Standards.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships and works cooperatively with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Meets deadlines, is punctual and completes assigned tasks with minimal assistance.
  • Participates in discussion or activities focused on using research to improve teaching and learning.
  • Takes an active interest in the school and community. Attends meetings and serves on staff/district committees.
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement.

Physical Requirements: Bending, carrying, climbing, travel between job sites, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking

Working Conditions: Includes extremes of temperature and humidity. Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
