Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Church Custodian to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of our church facilities. This vital role ensures that the environment remains welcoming, sanitary, and well-maintained for congregants, staff, visitors, and students at our church preschool alike. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to upholding high standards of cleanliness and safety through efficient custodial practices and facility maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Perform thorough cleaning of all church areas, including the sanctuary, preschool classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, fellowship hall, and common spaces using appropriate cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Handle various cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, window washing, and floor buffing to ensure spotless surfaces.
- Operate commercial cleaning equipment like floor buffers and scrubbers safely and effectively to maintain flooring.
- Manage chemical agents safely by following proper handling procedures and safety protocols to prevent accidents or contamination.
- Conduct heavy lifting and manual handling tasks for moving furniture, equipment, or supplies while adhering to safe lifting practices.
- Maintain sanitation standards by regularly disinfecting high-touch surfaces and ensuring restrooms are clean and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Assist with light maintenance tasks such as minor repairs or painting projects to support overall facilities upkeep.
- Sweep or tidy up exterior spaces around the church as needed.
- Follow safety protocols diligently during all custodial activities to promote a secure environment for everyone on site.
- Collaborate with church staff to coordinate cleaning schedules around events or services to minimize disruptions.
Experience
- Prior custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial or institutional setting is preferred.
- Proven ability to operate cleaning equipment such as floor buffers and industrial vacuums.
- Experience handling chemical agents safely in accordance with safety procedures is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with facilities maintenance tasks including basic repairs or painting is a plus.
- Strong understanding of sanitation standards and best practices for maintaining a clean environment.
- Previous porter or industrial cleaning experience will be considered an asset.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining physical stamina for long periods of manual work.
