DUTIES: Maintain the Standards of Care and adhere to the policies and procedures of Winston Medical Center. The following are specific duties of the Registered Nurse on the Turning point unit.
Administers medications, including intravenous therapy, and other medical treatments as prescribed by the attending physicians.
Completes initial nursing assessment of patients to determine immediate care needs (physical/mental) on admission to the unit and develops and implements initial treatment plan within 8 hours of the admission.
Participates as a member of the treatment team in planning and implementing therapeutic approaches for individual patients.
Attends patient treatment planning and progress review conferences.
Assesses the nursing care needs of patients and assists treatment team in developing and implementing an individual treatment plan.
Functions as a charge nurse and supervisor of staff on assigned shift.
Makes rounds with physicians, when requested, in order to coordinate patient care.
Manages and assists in training and orientation of new personnel.
Charts patient’s progress and other pertinent data in the patient’s record.
Assumes responsibility for drug storage, count and administration.
Supervises and manages the care administered by Mental Health Technicians/CNA’s and completion of Unit Shift Responsibilities.
Leads patient education groups aimed at patient improvement in activities of daily living, social skills, illness understanding, and medication compliance.
Able to use and maintain Log In and Password information for Time Clock System as well as Electronic Health Record System.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in Mississippi. Must have at least six months experience as a nurse in a health care setting, or be eligible for on-the-job training. Must possess superior knowledge of the principles of nursing care needs, and be able to coordinate a nursing plan with both the attending physician’s orders and the overall treatment plan.
