Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for reviewing and optimizing drawings, models, and prints for the manufacturing phase of new and custom products. This role works with all departments within the company to ensure that manufacturing requirements, drawing specifications, product performance, durability, quality, and cost are met. The position requires a high degree of technical accuracy and ability to meet critical deadlines.
This position is based out of our corporate offices located in Eagan, Minnesota, and may require occasional travel to and from manufacturing facilities, customer locations, and industry trade shows.
Primary Responsibilities
Product Development
· Review and evaluate design drawings and models to ensure they include all critical information required for manufacturing (e.g. weld, bend, and tooling requirements and specifications)
· Conduct cost analyses and partner with Product Engineering and Manufacturing to execute cost-saving design optimizations
· Support manufacturing readiness activities including DFM/DFA reviews, pilot builds, NPI and transition to production
· Collaborate on new innovative products, enhancements, or new technologies to meet market needs
· Plans, designs, implements and executes tasks in a Stage Gate process assuring that quality, reliability, serviceability, safety and cost/performance objectives are established and met
· Works with suppliers to coordinate prototype builds and to ensure design expectations are met
· Drive execution within accelerated Stage-Gate schedules without compromising manufacturing quality or project deadlines
· Ensures that designs meet structural, safety, and ergonomic requirements
· Reviews all documentation for design feasibility and accuracy
· Conducts design reviews to meet required specifications and manufacturability requirements
· Provides technical assistance to others as needed

· Keeps current with new manufacturing processes, regulations, and material development practices
· Perform other duties as assigned

Essential Education, Skills & Experience
· 5 years of experience in an engineering design environment
· BS in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or related engineering field
· 2 years of experience in design of consumer or industrial products (electro-mechanical and mechanical) including NPI
· Clear understanding of manufacturing processes including sheet metal, welding, casework, injection molding, extrusion and casting
· Proficient in CAD/CAM software, SolidWorks experience is required. AutoCAD experience is also preferred.
· Knowledge of engineering practices and documentation methods
· Enjoy a collaborative working style that thrives in a cross-functional team environment
· Self-motivated, creative and capable of handling and prioritizing multiple projects
· A high degree of accuracy and sense of urgency
· A strong mechanical aptitude demonstrated by past work experience and/or hobbies
· Excellent problem-solving skills
· Software skills including Microsoft Office and Product Data Management (PDM) system
Preferred Experience
· Experience using SolidWorks PDM ERP/MRP software
· Experience with configurable or custom-engineered products
· Experience supporting low-to-mid volume, high-mix manufacturing
· Manufacturing engineering experience in a similar industry
· Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred but not required
Location
· Eagan, MN (Twin Cities/Minneapolis-St. Paul metro). Occasional travel to manufacturing facilities, customer locations, and industry trade shows may be required
