For over 50 years, Aldersbridge Communities has been quietly doing some of the most important work in Rhode Island: making sure older adults — regardless of income — have a warm, dignified place to call home. We run four communities across East Providence, Providence, and Woonsocket, plus a physical therapy practice, a navigator program, and a for-profit consulting subsidiary that helps fund the mission. It's a real balance sheet with real complexity — and every line item ultimately connects back to comfort, dignity, self-determination, and grace for the people we serve.
Our longtime CFO is retiring at the end of the year, and we're looking for someone who can step into the role, build on a strong foundation, and bring fresh energy to how we plan, forecast, and tell our financial story — to our Board, our lenders, our regulators, and our community.
This isn't a back-office job. You'll sit at the leadership table, report directly to the CEO, and have real influence over the decisions that keep this organization thriving for the next 50 years.
What you'll actually be doing
? Owning the financial strategy for a multi-site nonprofit with a for-profit subsidiary — budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and long-range financial modeling that keeps us sustainable and mission-focused.
? Translating numbers into a story the Board, lenders, and community partners can actually use to make decisions — not just spreadsheets, but clear, confident narrative.
? Navigating the regulatory maze that comes with affordable senior housing and assisted living: HUD requirements, Medicaid, state reimbursement structures, and nonprofit compliance (audits, 990s, the works).
? Leading the finance function — accounting, AP/AR, treasury, and the systems and people behind them — while mentoring a team that keeps the day-to-day running smoothly.
? Partnering across the organization with operations, development, and HR leaders so financial thinking shows up in every major decision, not just the budget cycle.
? Managing banking, debt, and investment relationships, including capital projects and any future expansion (yes, we're growing — see The Landing at East Point).
? Serving as a key advisor to the CEO and Board, including presenting at Board and Finance Committee meetings with clarity and candor.
What you bring
? Significant senior financial leadership experience — CFO, Controller, VP Finance, or similar — ideally in senior living, healthcare, affordable housing, or another mission-driven, regulated environment.
? Real fluency in nonprofit finance: fund accounting, audits, 990s, and the particular art of stewarding restricted and unrestricted funds.
? A track record of being a strategic partner, not just a scorekeeper — someone who can walk into a Board meeting and make complex finances feel understandable and actionable.
? Comfort with the operational realities of long-term care and housing finance: reimbursement models, occupancy-driven revenue, capital planning for aging facilities.
? CPA or equivalent credential preferred, not required — we care more about judgment and leadership than letters after your name.
