Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

0.80 FTE, 64 Hours a Pay Period
Days, Hours between 8 am - 5 pm
Weekends: Every Other Weekend (Friday-Saturday)
Holidays: Every Other Holiday
Position Overview:
The Certified Nursing Assistant for Dialysis performs a variety of duties to assist the licensed staff in the care of renal dialysis patients, maintaining quality, and cost-effective care. Position is also responsible for clerical support in the absence of the Administrative Assistant.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists in transfer of patients.
- Obtains weights and vital signs at patient check-in, during and after treatments and as directed by the RN.
- Checks patients comfort hourly and reports to the Registered Nurse.
- Applies pressure to needle stick sites according to unit protocol if needed.
- Responds to patient requests.
- Transports patients when ancillary staff are unavailable.
- Assists patient with toileting needs as indicated.
- Strips down used dialyzers and bloodlines from machines after use per Infection Control Policy.
- Cleans dialysis machine and chair between each use.
- Assists with general department organization and cleanliness.
- Restocks department supplies and linens. Rotates supply stock and checks for expiration; utilizing the two-bin system.
- Completes water tests according to unit protocol.
- Charts patient information in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Records accurately in the appropriate place for each patient:
- Treatment record
- Machine safety record
- Daily/weekly maintenance records
- Patient log sheet
- Delivers requisitions, messages, or other paperwork as requested.
- Labels test tubes for lab specimens obtained in Dialysis.
- Fills out charge sheets and census books.
- Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- BLS Certification
- Must be a graduate of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant program and must remain current on the Minnesota State Registry as a Certified Nursing Assistant
- Basic Computer Skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, and Patient Information Database
- Must pass Ishihara Test for Color Deficiency prior to employment
