WinnMed is seeking to hire a full time Central Sterile Technician to join our Surgery Department . The Central Sterile Technician plays a critical role in patient safety by ensuring all surgical instruments, trays, and equipment are cleaned, decontaminated, sterilized, and prepared according to hospital policies and protocols and regulatory standards. This position supports the surgical team by providing timely and accurate instrumentation and maintaining infection prevention practices. This position is responsible for the decontamination, processing, sterilization and distribution of equipment and supplies for in-hospital use, following the manufacturers recommendations for sterilization, and processing medical supplies and instrumentation which includes decontamination, assembly, terminal sterilization and sterile storage delivery to end users. Position is Full Time, 40 hours per week. Monday - Friday, primarily 10:00 am - 6:30 pm. Includes possible rotating shifts depending on departmental staffing. No weekends, no holidays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and procedure trays according to regulatory and hospital standards.
- Operate and monitor autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and other sterilization equipment.
- Ensure accurate labeling and documentation of all sterilized items, including maintenance of sterilization logs and biological indicators.
- Maintain readiness of instruments and sterile supplies for surgical and procedural cases, often with limited back stock.
- Respond to urgent and routine requests from OR and procedural staff in a timely manner.
- Maintain high standards of infection prevention and personal safety in accordance with hospital policy and CDC guidelines.
- Required :
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in Iowa required
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification required within 1 year from hire
- BLS certification required within 1 month of hire
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations in the perioperative setting
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
- Basic computer skills for documentation and inventory management
- Strong customer service and organization skills
- Preferred :
- Previous healthcare or perioperative experience preferred
- Microsoft Word & Excel knowledge and experience preferred
- Knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control, and surgical instrumentation
- At least 2 years of experience as a CNA
- At least 2 years of experience with surgical instrumentation handling and sterilization
