Branch Services Assistant - Northfield Library

Overview
Under direction from the Branch Services Manager and Branch Librarians, is responsible for circulating materials, registering patrons for library cards and programs, and assisting with programs and services.
Essential Duties
· Checks items out and in and sorts, shelves, and pulls materials for patrons
· Shelf-reads collection and assists with creating and maintaining displays
· Registers patrons for library cards and programs and resolves fees on accounts
· Assists with readers’ advisory and planning and evaluating programs
· Assists patrons with computers and devices
· Suggests items for purchase based on patron feedback
· Assists with outreach efforts that promote the library’s collections, programs, and services
· Provides input on and supports the library’s strategic plan and departmental goals/policies
· Explains department and library policies and procedures to the public
· Engages in professional development activities to enhance job skills
· Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience
· High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
· Minimum 1-year customer service experience, preferably in a public library
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
· Knowledgeable and comfortable with current technologies and digital resources
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Polaris/Leap preferred
· Well-organized and able to effectively juggle multiple priorities
· Excellent written/oral communication skills and able to work effectively with others
· Solid customer service skills
Job Classification: Non-Exempt
Hours: 18 hours per week, TH/F/SAT afternoons, M mornings or afternoons.
