What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assessment Specialist I position at Winnebago County?
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Assessments or his/her designee, is responsible for assisting taxpayers, completing clerical duties to ensure a timely completion of the tax cycle, supporting township assessors and the clerk of the board of review.
Examples of Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist taxpayers on the phone and at the counter with the completion of forms and answering questions
- Processing deeds to ensure proper system data and then transmitting to the Township Assessors
- Finalizing Real Estate Transfer Declarations (RETDs) into the Illinois Department of Revenue’s website
- Accurate and timely application of Homestead Exemptions
- Generate and mail correspondences to taxpayers
- Mail processing (in/out/return)
- Assist in the audits of all Homestead Exemption property
- General filing and clerical administration
- Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education:
- Requires a high school diploma or GED
Experience:
- Proficient with MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook)
Abilities:
- Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Requires excellent attention to detail
- Requires the ability to interact and maintain a strong working relationship with other local units of government
