Winnebago County is looking to hire a Highway Operator I who already has a CDL A to work on our County Roads and Plow Snow. Class B Commercial Driver's License may be considered but must obtain Class A license within six months of hire.
This is a safety-sensitive role subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements. The candidate must be available to report to work after hours to respond to emergencies and/or highway conditions (i.e. slow plow, salt, brine).

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:
Performs manual labor and operates trucks and other equipment as required by the Highway Department’s operations, in order to keep roadways within the county safe and free of debris. The Highway Operator I is a safety focused position, subject to DOT drug & alcohol procedures. This position must be available to report to work during regular business hours and must be available after hours to report for winter plowing activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Safely and efficiently operates trucks and other equipment according to departmental operations and follows all safety procedures associated with the equipment.
- Performs a variety of manual labor as needed and does so with little supervision, at times, on busy roadways and in all weather seasons.
- Performs daily walk around inspections and routine equipment maintenance on assigned Highway Department equipment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND CERTIFICATION:
- Required: Current valid Wisconsin driver license, Class A Commercial Drivers License with Tanker Endorsement, and no vehicle restriction. A Class B Commercial Drivers License may be considered, but must obtain Class A license within six months of hire.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Related municipal, construction, or snow removal experience preferred.
