About WINGS

Wings for Kids is more than just an after-school program—it’s a place where kids learn how to make smart choices, build healthy relationships, and understand their emotions. We bring social-emotional learning (SEL) to life through fun, engaging activities that help students grow both in and out of the classroom. Our goal? To give every child the tools they need to succeed, thrive, and feel at home in a safe, supportive environment. As a WINGS Leader, you’ll help kids grow into their best selves. It’s a chance to make a real difference while being part of something meaningful (and fun!).

WINGS Leader – Job Summary

Are you passionate about helping children grow, even on their hardest days? We’re looking for energetic, reliable, emotionally steady team players to join us as WINGS Leaders. In this role, you’ll work directly with elementary students in under-resourced communities, helping them build social and emotional skills through structured activities, coaching, and consistent relationship-building.

This is not a “babysitting” role. It is youth development work. You will be on your feet, engaged with kids from start to finish.

Our students may:

  • Struggle with impulse control, defiance, or emotional regulation
  • Experience high levels of stress outside of school
  • Need repeated redirection and consistent boundaries
  • Test your patience, creativity, and consistency

You must be able to:

  • Stay calm in overstimulating environments
  • Respond to challenging behavior without taking it personally
  • Maintain firm, caring boundaries
  • Receive coaching and feedback with humility
  • Show up consistently, even when the day feels long

If you are resilient, growth-minded, and committed to being the steady adult in a child’s life, the impact you’ll have (and the relationships you’ll build) are more than worth it.

This role is especially well-suited for individuals considering careers in education, counseling, social work, psychology, or youth development who want hands-on, real-world experience.

  • Create a Structured, Safe Environment: Maintain clear expectations, routines, and boundaries. Supervise students actively and ensure emotional and physical safety at all times.
  • Lead SEL-Focused Programming: Facilitate structured, high-energy activities using WINGS’ curriculum and kid-friendly language. Manage transitions, group dynamics, and behavior while maintaining engagement.
  • Respond to Challenging Behaviors Professionally: Use trauma-informed strategies to coach students through conflict, emotional outbursts, and peer challenges. Remain calm, regulated, and solution-focused.
  • Build Strong Relationships: Develop meaningful, trusting relationships with students in your small group (approximately 1:15 ratio). Learn to lead with empathy while maintaining authority.

  • Support Academic Growth: Assist with homework and academic practice while encouraging persistence and confidence.

  • Grow as a Professional: Participate in training, accept coaching, and reflect on your practice. This role requires self-awareness and a willingness to improve.
