TITLE: Principal (Elementary)

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Kentucky Certification for School Administrator

 

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

 

  1. The Principal shall be responsible for the care, upkeep and use of the buildings, grounds, and all equipment to which he/she is assigned.
  2. Maintain the upkeep and cleanliness of the buildings and report any needed repairs to the Superintendent.
  3. Keep the school building and grounds in an attractive manner.
  4. See that the buildings and grounds are free from any hazards that could affect the health and safety of pupils, teachers, and visitors in the school.
  5. Maintain at all times an orderly learning atmosphere.
  6. Supervise the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes; assumes responsibility for the safety of the school plant.
  7. Inform non-school groups of the Board of Education policies concerning the use of the school building.
  8. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, and other paperwork required by the Superintendent or the State Department of Education.
  9. With assistance from the SBDM Council, lead in the development and determination of appropriateness of the instructional program, then monitors the program.
  10. Plans and supervises fire, earthquake, tornado, and other emergency drills. A written report will be filed in the Principal’s office listing dates and times of all emergency drills.
  11. Hold students accountable for observing and obeying the School District’s Student Code of Acceptable Behavior.
  12. Maintain a program of public relations and communication in order to foster positive understanding and support of the school’s objective and programs.
  13. With assistance from the SBDM Council, oversee the constant evaluation of the instructional program.
  14. Insures that both certified and classified personnel assigned to the school are aware of the policies and regulations of the Board of Education.
  15. Evaluates all certified and non-certified employees according to the guidelines established by the school district.
  16. Keeps parents informed concerning the school program including student progress, achievement, and deficiencies. 
  17. Exhibit loyalty to all phases of the school program and participates in school activities as much as possible.
  18. Works with all school principals in coordinating educational programs which allow for unity between schools in order to provide a smooth transition from elementary to middle school and from middle school to high school.
  19. See that an inventory of all equipment in the school is complete and  a copy the inventory is submitted to the Superintendent at the close of each year.
  20. Keep the proper inventory forms on textbooks and collect from the students the value of any book damaged, destroyed, or lost.
  21. See that all employees of the school fulfills their working obligation regarding time and tasks completed. This includes any employee who is paid an additional salary above base salary for extra services.
  22. Assume leadership in all areas of the school’s athletic and extracurricular activities.
  23. Cooperates with University officials regarding teacher training and preparation.
  24. Conducts staff meetings to keep members informed of policy changes, new programs, and innovations in education.
  25. The Principal shall be responsible for the supervision of substitute teachers working within the building and ensure the substitute has what is needed to perform duties.
  26. The Principal shall be responsible for the supervision of students who are in the school building before and after school.
  27. Supervise the loading and unloading of all school buses.
  28. See that all student activities in the school are properly supervised.
  29. The Principal shall be responsible for seeing that all unauthorized persons are restricted from school grounds during school days and at all school functions.
  30. The Principal shall be responsible for the management of all public fund handled in the school during the course of the school year.
  31. The Principal shall provide the Superintendent and Board of Education a monthly financial report.
  32. It is the responsibility of the Principal to see that any and all budgets are completed and followed for any organization or department in the school.
  33. The Principal shall attend any meeting required by the Superintendent and shall inform his/her staff (certified and non-certified) of information disseminated during these meetings.
  34. The Principal shall be responsible for assisting in the development and distribution of any student or teacher handbooks.
  35. The Principal shall be responsible for seeing that all rules and regulations of the Board of Education are carried out in the school to which he/she is assigned.
  36. The Principal shall be responsible for making all necessary schedules which are applicable for the orderly operation of the school.
  37. The Principal shall be responsible for receiving information from juvenile court regarding students enrolled in their school and shall maintain the information in a confidential manner as set forth in the procedure determined by the Superintendent.
  38. The Principal shall be in the building at least thirty (30) minutes prior to the beginning of school and remain until the buses have dropped off students in the afternoon unless other times have been approved by the Superintendent.
  39. The Principal performs related duties and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
  40. Adheres to the Professional Code of Ethics.

 

EVALUATION: 

 

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.

 

* This position will have 44 extended days of employment.

* This position includes a stipend.
