    SUMMARY:

    To administer the Windsor Locks Public School's payroll system; to provide support for the administration of employee insurance; and to provide general office support for the district's Central Office.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Prepares employee payrolls in accordance with collective bargaining agreements for bargaining unit personnel, or in accordance with salary/wage levels for non-bargaining employees; receives and reviews time sheets; performs accurate calculations and establishes payroll deductions in accordance with local, state and federal statutes for payroll taxes, Social Security, retirement, group insurance, union dues and other payments as required by law and applicable contract; enters data into computerized payroll system and prepares, verifies and distributes checks; audits and balances payroll and withholding accounts and posts to general ledger; maintains accurate records associated with payroll activities including journals and up to date payroll records.
    • Prepares required monthly, quarterly and annual statistical and narrative reports for withholding taxes. Social Security payments and state retirement programs; prepares IRS reports, W-2's, 941's, 5500, etc.; prepares regular statistical and narrative reports for Business Manager and Superintendent as necessary.
    • Maintains accurate information on all voluntary payroll deductions, including State Teacher Retirement Board, tax-sheltered annuities, charitable contributions, credit union, etc.; issues all checks for payroll deductions and sends them to appropriate agencies/companies.
    • Encumbers payroll, where appropriate, and maintains the accuracy of the encumbered accounts; assists the Business Manager with payroll budget projections and payroll costs.
    • Responds to inquiries from employee organizations, state and federal officials, auditors, etc.
    • Performs all duties in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP) and local, state and federal statutes.
    • Assumes health insurance and employee retirements responsibilities including the disbursement of information to employees; enrollment and revision in programs of employees; calculation of payroll deductions and preparation of requested reports.
    • Provides other duties which may be required by the Business Manager and/or Superintendent.
    • Performs other duties as appropriate and required.
    • Prepare ACA information.
    • Experience with School ERP Pro / Tyler Technologies a plus but not required.

    Education and/or Experience:
    High School/college graduate preferred and equivalent of 2 years payroll experience.

    Working Conditions: $28.19/hr. to $34.57/hr. - Competitive benefits per Administrative Assistants contract.
