What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Dietitian position at Windsor Gardens Convalescent Center of San Diego?
UTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Demonstrates commitment to company’s mission, values and standards of ethical behavior.

3. Ensures that all residents are treated fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect, and their rights are protected at all
times.
4. Respects and upholds all residents’ personal and property rights whenever carrying out duties, including knocking
before entering a resident's room.
5. Complies with all company and departmental policies and procedures.
6. Reviews the dietary requirements of each resident when admitted to facility and as may be required, and assists the
attending physician in planning resident's prescribed diet plan.
7. Develops nutritional plan of care in conjunction with facility interdisciplinary members.
8. Ensures that a current, legible diet card with resident’s name, room number, diet order, food preferences and any other
pertinent information is available for all residents who receive meals, and is updated as needed.
9. Performs documentation duties as required and in accordance with company charting and documentation policies and
procedures and government regulations. Ensures documentation is accurate, informative and descriptive of resident's
condition, care provided and resident's response.
10. Maintains records of residents’ food likes and dislikes.
11. Processes diet changes and new diets as received from nursing service.
12. Plans normal and special diet menus as prescribed by attending physician.
13. Ensures that current snack list/labels are available for all residents who are to receive a snack as part of their
prescribed diet, by physician's order, and/or as part of their nutritional care plan, and that it is updated as needed.
14. Involves resident and family in planning objectives and goals for resident.
15. Visits residents routinely to evaluate quality of meals served, likes and dislikes, etc. and maintains liaison with families
as appropriate.
16. Monitors food temperatures and food quality at point of service in the dining room, lounges, and resident rooms via test
trays.
17. Participates in discharge planning, development and implementation of resident care plans, resident evaluations etc.,
as required.
18. Inspects food storage/supply rooms, food prep/service and dining no less than monthly and makes recommendations
to Dietary Services Director.
19. Participates in Resident Council Meetings when requested. Ensures the follow-up of any nutritional services issues that
are discussed in Resident Council meeting.
20. Provides input on employee performance, and makes recommendations to Supervisor concerning wage and salary
adjustments, disciplinary actions, hiring, termination, transfers, etc.
21. Assists in development of departmental objectives, update and implementation of departmental policies and
procedures, and standardization of methods by which work will be accomplished/quality will be evaluated.
22. Reports the following in accordance with established facility procedures and regulatory standards: accidents and
incidents; resident grievances, complaints, allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property;
occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals; concerns and suspected
incidences of non-compliance including but not limited to hazardous conditions and equipment.
23. Ensures adherence to state and federal regulations and company policies and procedures; HIPAA confidentiality
standards of resident and facility information; Infection Control, Universal Precautions, OSHA and safety standards;
established safety precautions and regulations in the performance of tasks and the use of equipment and supplies.
24. Demonstrates knowledge of facility and departmental quality improvement activities and/or participates in quality
improvement meetings. Recommends any equipment and supplies needed for the department as well as any
departmental improvements. Confers with department personnel to solicit input on improving service and addressing
problem areas.
25. Assists in development of department budget and ensures expenses are within budgeted parameters. May maintain
records of expenses and submit reports to Administrator as required. Ensures staff is utilizing most efficient, safe and
cost effective techniques and methods, and that supplies, equipment and personnel are used in most efficient manner
to minimize waste.
26. Participates in and/or leads on-the-job training, in-service education and orientation programs; attends OSHA and CDC
in-service training programs for hazardous communication, TB management, and bloodborne pathogens standard;
serves on various committees as required by existing regulations or as appointed by Administrator.
27. Works with facility consultants as necessary and implements recommended changes as required. Ensures outside
services are properly supervised and completed in accordance with contracts/work orders.
28. May make written or oral reports and recommendations concerning operation of department and in response to
concerns or complaints.
29. Keeps abreast of current federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards, and makes
recommendations on changes in policies and procedures. May participate in workshops and seminars to stay current
with changes in field, as well as to maintain professional status.
30. Maintains reference material necessary for complying with current standards and regulations, and that will provide
assistance in maintaining quality service.
31. Interprets department policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, family members, etc., as necessary.
32. Performs other related duties as required.
