Park Maintainer

Winding Trails, Inc., a nonprofit organization is seeking a highly motivated and uniquely qualified individual for a Park Maintainer position. This organization has 380 acres of beautiful woodlands, lakes, and streams. The property has a variety of buildings, sports fields, and equipment. Programs include family memberships, a summer day camp, a cross country ski center, specials events, and more. Qualifications needed include skills in vehicle/equipment operation/repair, carpentry, general maintenance, landscaping, and the ability to problem solve.

Summary of Responsibilities: The Park Maintainer, under the general direction of the Park Director, performs manual work and skilled labor related to the care of park and recreational facilities. This work frequently involves heavy lifting and strenuous tasks and is usually performed outside involving exposure to varying climate conditions.

Essential Functions:

• Performs various maintenance tasks related to buildings, grounds, beach, and sports fields.
• Operates mowers, tractors, loaders, snowplows, snowmobiles, and other small power equipment.
• Keeps park and recreation areas free of trash and debris and safe for public use.
• Performs tasks related to carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, landscaping, and vehicle maintenance.
• Recommends the purchases of supplies as needed.
• Recommends improvements and repairs to be made at the facility to the Park Director.
• Works weekends as rental attendant greeting and providing services to various rental groups.
• Plows snow, grooms trails, maintains pond, and all related equipment.
• Completes all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Competencies:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. with area of concentration in technical skills is required.
• General knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a various equipment and vehicles is required.
• General knowledge of building cleaning practices and park maintenance is required.
• Ability to work extra hours including weekends and nights as required to fulfill job duties.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both professional and non-professional, co-workers, management personnel, the public and others.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions, heavy traffic flow, and juggle multiple priorities.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED training is required or ability to acquire within 6 months.
• Valid Connecticut Driver’s license.
