The Windham County Humane Society (WCHS) is seeking a full time Veterinary Assistant to join our dedicated team. Our veterinary assistants play an important role in supporting the health and well-being of animals in our care by assisting with medical procedures, surgeries, and wellness services, while maintaining a clean, safe, and compassionate clinic environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during exams, vaccine clinics, and surgerical procedures.
- Administer vaccines, medications, flea/tick treatments, and perform basic diagnostic tests.
- Monitor animals before, during, and after procedures; provide post-op and follow-up care
- Maintain laboratory and surgical equipment
- Maintain medical records in Clinic HQ
- Clean and disinfect clinic spaces and equipment
- Communicate with clients, staff, and volunteers and shelter team in a professional, compassionate manner
Qualifications
- High school diploma required
- At least 2 years’ experience in animal care (humane society, veterinary clinic, or related setting)
- Skilled in low-stress animal restraint, basic veterinary terminology, ability to administer PO/IM/IV medications, client communication skills and basic patient evaluation.
- Strong computer and record-keeping skills
- Ability to prioritize, work independently, and remain calm in emotional situations
- Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
The position is M-F, approximately 9-hour days, 4 days per week. Approx. 36hrs/wk.
Job Type: Part-time
