Special Education Teacher: Transition Program

This position is based out of Winchester Public Schools; however, a majority of the work will be performed in community work sites as delineated by the student's IEP and The Gilbert School.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated experience in writing standards-based IEPs, including goals and objectives for transition planning
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze standardized and criterion-based assessments and relate them to IEP goals
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Connecticut Core Transition Skills
  • Demonstrated experience in aligning curriculum with Connecticut Standards for Transition Planning
  • Demonstrated experience developing programming for transition planning in post-secondary education, employment, and independent living
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local and state resources related to transition services
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others
  • High standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity

Responsibilities:

  • Case management of the transition students enrolled in the Winchester Transition Academy
  • Training, oversight, and supervision of the job coaches
  • Provides training to Special Education teachers employed by WPS who have students of transition age and requiring transition activities in IEPs
  • Develops and maintains working relationships with community businesses, agencies, and organizations to develop job site opportunities
  • Regularly checks in on job sites, seeking feedback from management at the job sites regarding student and job coach performance
  • Maintains regular communication with parents
  • Collaborates with area agencies such as the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services (BRS) and the Department of Developmental Services (DDS)
  • Weekly collaboration with parents about student job site schedules
  • Coordinates transitional opportunities (field trips, job fairs, etc.)
  • Attends transitional professional development conferences
  • Assists in the development and implementation of programming aligned with the Connecticut CORE Transition Skills, to include functional curriculum and/or self-determination and pre-vocational skill sets
  • Consults with students and teams to identify strategies/tools to promote transition readiness, assisting teams with school and community-based learning opportunities
  • Consults with staff prior to Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings to ensure the development of IEPs with accommodations and modifications designed to meet each student's unique needs
  • Attends PPT meetings as determined appropriate by the Assistant Director of Special Education Services
  • Ensures that the IEP team develops and implements realistic and specific post-school outcome goal statements that are measurable, based on the student's individualized needs and interests 

Working Conditions: 

  • Per Contract with the Winchester Education Association.
  • Pay Range - $44,456.00 – $100,709.00

Requirements:

  • Current Connecticut Teacher Certification: Comprehensive Special Education (065, 165, or 265)
  • Three or more years of experience in Secondary Special Education and/or Vocational Transition Education/Services
