What are the responsibilities and job description for the Content Specialist position at Winchester Community Access & Media?
SUMMARY: Reporting to the Executive Director and/or the Operations Manager, the Content Specialist will manage the crucial public face of the organization. This is a part-time position, limited to a negotiable range of 22 – 26 hours per week. Exceeding the range requires approval from the Executive Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Gather, sort, schedule, and when necessary, produce an array of original programming in order to develop and promote program schedules for WinCAM’s four public access television stations. Research and organize import programming to supplement resident content.
- Manage and regularly maintain WinCAM’s online content platforms, ensuring that all content is fresh and accessible.
- Keep local and online storage locations free of clutter, routinely backing up local content and deleting extraneous content.
- Regularly schedule and test signals for live programming on multiple channels, ensuring quality video and audio signal flow on both cable and streaming platforms.
- Maintain and improve WinCAM’s media archive systems, ensuring the protection and preservation of WinCAM’s video and audio history.
- Investigate, manage, and implement new technologies to enhance viewer experience including closed captioning, shared live content from other communities, options for programming guides and other options as they become available.
- Participate in the editing, mastering and file transfer of WinCAM productions for the air.
- Research and create content to populate WinCAM’s community bulletin board- including events from local organizations, WinCAM programming schedules, or upcoming class offerings. Keep it up to date and relevant, setting content to delete when it’s no longer applicable.
- Promote WinCAM programming to the Winchester community as appropriate. Engage with the community to discover programming preferences.
SHARED DUTIES:
- Assist other staff in the reservation, check-in and check-out of field equipment and in-house production areas.
- Support WinCAM members and producers by providing technical expertise and advice. Make sustained efforts to involve WinCAM members in all areas of production.
- Create, maintain, and regularly update content for WinCAM’s website, social media, digital signage, newsletters or other outreach platforms.
- Participate in WinCAM staff productions, including the planning, setup and production of these events, as necessary.
- Gather operational data, as directed by the Executive Director, to be shared with the board of directors and the general public.
- Participate in community outreach to help build membership and bolster the good reputation of WinCAM within the community.
- Support other WinCAM staff members by assisting in duties outside the scope of this description.
- Help maintain a user-friendly, efficient and clean facility.
- Troubleshoot, maintain and when possible, repair WinCAM production equipment.
- Assist WinCAM members in the area of program development.
- Regularly clear space on WinCAM drives and cards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· College degree in Communications, Television Production, or a related field.
· Must have exemplary organization and time-management skills.
· Must possess the ability to perform equally well, whether under direct supervision or left to one’s own discretion.
· Must have some flexibility in schedule, with the ability to work some evening hours.
· Must have a desire to learn new skills and to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
· Knowledge of both traditional television programming and online content curation, a definite advantage.
· Experience with video field production equipment preferred.
· Experience with video editing platforms preferred.
· Must have the desire and fortitude to work in a highly-communicative, highly-social organization and the ability to work with others.
· Must be able to pass CORI/SORI checks.
· Must be a licensed driver.
· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds or stand for long periods of time while operating equipment.
