Wiltwyck Rural Cemetery & Crematory is seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined individual to join our team. This is a hands-on position involving the operation and maintenance of specialized equipment, facility maintenance, cemetery operations, and training to become a certified crematory operator.
While the work is technical, it is also deeply meaningful. Every task we perform directly impacts families during one of the most difficult times in their lives. We are looking for someone who combines mechanical aptitude with professionalism, compassion, and respect for others.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain specialized cremation equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance and minor mechanical repairs.
- Assist with cemetery operations, including burials and memorial installations.
- Maintain buildings, vehicles, and equipment.
- Safely operate tools, machinery, and light equipment.
- Follow detailed procedures and maintain accurate documentation.
- Interact professionally and compassionately with grieving families, funeral directors, and visitors when needed.
- Work as part of a close-knit team committed to excellence.
Qualifications
- Mechanically inclined with experience using tools and equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Professional appearance and mature demeanor.
- Able to remain calm, respectful, and compassionate in emotionally sensitive situations.
- Dependable, punctual, and detail-oriented.
- Able to lift 50 pounds and work both indoors and outdoors in all seasons.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Maintenance, construction, automotive, HVAC, military, emergency services, or industrial experience is a plus—but we are willing to train the right person.
