Wilson Veterinary Hospital is a privately owned, three-time AAHA accredited small animal hospital. We provide general practice services, ER/ Urgent Care services, critical care/ hospitalization, soft tissue, orthopedic, arthroscopic and laparoscopic surgeries, Vimago CT scanner, ultrasonography, endoscopy and small rigid scoping abilities, certified rehab technicians with underwater treadmill. We also have chiropractic care, acupuncture and radioactive medicine (Synovetin OA). Once a month a boarded cardiologist visits. The original owner (Dr. John Wilson, DVM, DACVP) believed in affordable, complete veterinary care for everyone. We have strived to continue this service. The current owners are moving the practice in a positive direction by continuing the long-standing tradition of quality care at affordable prices, while promoting a positive work environment that is dedicated to our employees' work-life balance.
Reports to: West Technician Manager
Hours: Part/Full time. - 1 Evening and 1 weekend shift REQUIRED.
Includes $1,500 SIGN ON BONUS FOR LVT'S
Position Summary:
The Veterinary Technician in the Emergency Department plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients requiring urgent and intensive treatment. This position requires advanced technical skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a strong commitment to supporting veterinarians in providing emergency and critical care.
Responsibilities
- Provide immediate triage for incoming emergency patients.
- Assist veterinarians with emergency and critical procedures, including CPR, wound management, and stabilization.
- Monitor patients closely, including vital signs, oxygen therapy, and IV fluid administration.
- Place and maintain IV catheters, draw blood, run diagnostic lab tests, and collect other samples as directed.
- Administer medications, anesthetics, and treatments under veterinarian supervision.
- Operate and maintain emergency and critical care equipment..
- Perform radiographs, laboratory testing, and other diagnostic procedures.
- Provide compassionate communication and support to pet owners during high-stress situations.
- Maintain accurate medical records, treatment logs, and patient updates.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and well-stocked treatment and ICU area.
- Adhere to OSHA, DEA, AAHA and hospital safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Licensed/Registered/Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, CVT) preferred. Candidates who have extensive on the job training, with no license, will be considered if they show the competency appropriate to fulfill the job duties.
- Minimum of 2 years of veterinary technician experience; emergency/critical care experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, pharmacology, and emergency procedures.
- Ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Compassionate, patient-focused attitude with strong client service abilities.
- Experience in animal handling and restraint techniques.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures and aseptic techniques.
- Compassionate approach towards animal care.
- Computer Skills: Impromed, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Outlook preferred
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry animals up to 50 lbs. (with assistance if necessary).
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment with exposure to infectious diseases, radiation, and chemicals.
