House Supervisor Job Description
Position Overview
The House Supervisor is responsible for the daily oversight, coordination, and management of residential services within a Virginia DBHDS licensed group home. The House Supervisor ensures individuals receive quality, person-centered supports while maintaining compliance with DBHDS regulations, Human Rights requirements, HCBS standards, agency policies, and all applicable state and federal requirements.
The House Supervisor provides leadership to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), oversees service implementation, promotes individual choice and independence, maintains a safe home environment, and supports the overall health, safety, and well-being of individuals receiving services.
Essential Job ResponsibilitiesIndividual Care and Service Oversight
- Oversee daily residential operations to ensure individuals receive safe, respectful, and person-centered services.
- Ensure services are provided according to each individual's Individual Support Plan (ISP), Person-Centered Plan, behavior support plans, medical needs, and agency policies.
- Monitor individual health, safety, emotional well-being, and quality of life.
- Coordinate medical appointments, healthcare services, transportation needs, and follow-up care.
- Ensure medication administration procedures are followed according to regulations and agency policy.
- Monitor personal care, hygiene, nutrition, personal belongings, and individual needs.
- Identify safety concerns and implement appropriate supports and preventative measures.
- Assist with incident response, investigations, and corrective actions as needed.
Staff Supervision and Management
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to Direct Support Professionals.
- Ensure adequate staffing coverage to meet individual needs and regulatory requirements.
- Train, coach, and mentor staff on agency policies, DBHDS requirements, HCBS expectations, documentation, and person-centered practices.
- Assist with employee onboarding, orientation, and competency training.
- Monitor staff performance and provide feedback, coaching, and corrective guidance when necessary.
- Ensure staff maintain required certifications, training, and documentation.
- Review staff documentation to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate and complete individual records, including progress notes, incident reports, ISP documentation, medical records, and other required documents.
- Ensure documentation reflects services provided and individual outcomes.
- Maintain compliance with DBHDS licensing requirements, HCBS regulations, Human Rights standards, and agency policies.
- Prepare records and documentation for audits, inspections, and quality reviews.
- Monitor implementation of services and complete required assessments and reviews.
Residential Operations and Facility Management
- Maintain a safe, clean, comfortable, and welcoming home environment.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, emergency preparedness requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Monitor household supplies, equipment, and individual personal items.
- Report maintenance needs and ensure repairs are addressed promptly.
- Maintain proper organization of the home, including required postings, records, and safety documentation.
Person-Centered Programming and Community Integration
- Promote independence, choice, dignity, and inclusion for individuals receiving services.
- Support individuals in developing meaningful daily routines and activities.
- Encourage community participation based on individual preferences and goals.
- Assist with planning activities that promote social skills, relationships, employment opportunities, recreation, and community involvement.
- Ensure staff support individuals in making informed choices about their lives.
Financial and Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records related to individual funds, petty cash, receipts, and program expenses.
- Follow agency procedures for handling individual money and purchases.
- Assist with budgeting and household needs.
- Complete required administrative reports and correspondence.
- Communicate professionally with families, guardians, case managers, providers, and other stakeholders.
Communication and Coordination
- Maintain effective communication with individuals, families, guardians, support coordinators, healthcare providers, and community partners.
- Coordinate with medical professionals, behavioral providers, emergency personnel, and other service providers.
- Ensure important information is communicated appropriately to staff and leadership.
- Promote teamwork and collaboration among all members of the support team.
Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Management
- Follow and implement emergency procedures, including medical emergencies, behavioral crises, severe weather, evacuation, and safety events.
- Provide immediate support during emergencies while maintaining individual dignity and safety.
- Ensure emergency plans and protocols are reviewed and followed.
- Complete required notifications and documentation following incidents.
Training and Professional Development
- Participate in required training and maintain knowledge of DBHDS regulations, HCBS standards, and best practices.
- Provide ongoing guidance and training support to residential staff.
- Encourage staff growth and professional development.
- Promote a culture of accountability, respect, and continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience working in a residential, developmental disability, behavioral health, or human services setting preferred.
- Experience supervising staff or managing residential services preferred.
- Knowledge of Virginia DBHDS regulations, HCBS requirements, and person-centered practices preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to work in a residential setting and respond to individual needs.
- Ability to complete required documentation using electronic or written systems.
- Ability to participate in emergency response situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
