STEM Lab Facilitator (Certified)

Reports To: Principal

Terms of Employment: Permanent, 10 Month Position

Nature of Work: The STEM Facilitator will be directly involved in planning and facilitating instruction directly related to STEM within the school’s STEM lab that supports the NC Common Core and ISTE standards to K-5 students.

Qualifications and Licensure:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university
• North Carolina Teaching certification with at least 5 years of successful experience in the classroom as a teacher

• Preferences:
• • Certifications in relation to Math, Science, Computer Science, or STEM
  • Experience and skill in the integration of STEM and Curriculum to support instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to work with administration and staff to engage and foster positive collaboration and advancement of STEM based practices
  • Deep knowledge of content standards and effective instructional strategies
  • Knowledgeable of Google Applications

Duties & Responsibilities

• Develops and guides STEM based lessons and activities that are content rich while fostering the integration of the 4 C’s (Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Critical Thinking) to K-5 students.
• Provides teachers with consultation and assistance on best practices for STEM integration
• Attends and actively participates in grade level PLCs to collaborate with teachers.
• Create and teach STEM lessons using the NC CC standards based on the WCS pacing guide in collaboration with classroom teachers.
• Participates in STEM PD opportunities provided within the district
• Works collaboratively with WCS STEM facilitators.
• Works collaboratively with WCS District STEM Coordinator.
• Works with WCS District STEM Coordinator and Administration to make appropriate STEM related purchases for STEM school needs.
• Maintains and upkeep the school’s STEM lab and materials.
• Performs other tasks related to the role of STEM Lab Facilitator as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.

• This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
• Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting.
• Work has standard vision requirements.
• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
• Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. •
• Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.

• Understanding of effective instructional technology use.
• Ability to model the integration of technology in all curriculum areas.
• Understanding of math curriculum and instructional strategies.
• Ability to assist teachers in implementing effective instruction in math and other STEM areas.
• Knowledge of professional communication tools.
• Strong working understanding of educational issues.
• Demonstrated and effective oral and written communication skills as well as excellent presentation skills.
• Ability to manage projects independently.
• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with district staff.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline driven, rapidly changing team environment.
