Nature of Work
Under general direction of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services oversees all auxiliary services, student discipline process, school and district safety programs, facilities and construction management, transportation, child nutrition, before and after school care programs and other operational divisions of the school district as assigned. The Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services supervises the Executive Director of Facility Services, Executive Director of Transportation, Executive Director of School Nutrition, and Director of After School Care Enrichment Program (ASCEP) and other individuals as assigned. The Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services is a member of the Superintendent’s Senior Staff.
Qualifications and Licensure
- Master’s Degree in School Administration required, Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership preferred
- Holds an appropriate NC Administrative Certification
- Successful experience at the school and central office level preferred
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves as a liaison with the Board, other divisions of the school system, and other agencies, organizations on matters related to facilities, construction management, land acquisition, transportation, school nutrition, maintenance, student discipline, and ASCEP.
- Serves on support teams at the district level and represents the district at the local and state level on matters regarding student safety and behavior.
- Provides leadership and supervision for the school system’s Transportation Department.
- Provides leadership and supervision for the school system’s Facility Services Department.
- Provides leadership and supervision for the School Nutrition department of the school system.
- Provides leadership and monitors the district safety plan and processes.
- Provides leadership and supervision for the ASCEP department of the school system.
- Provides leadership and supervision for the district athletic director and all athletic programs.
- Provides leadership and supervision for the district’s Driver Education program.
- Provides leadership and supervision for the district student assignment process.
- Works cooperatively with local law enforcement and emergency management agencies to support school and district programs.
- Develops and implements the system’s Facilities Plan.
- Provides leadership and monitors construction and capital projects for the system.
- Coordinates the partnership between School Resource Officers and the district.
- Assists with the supervision and monitoring of schools in assigned areas.
- Assists in the supervision and evaluation of principals in assigned schools.
- Assists with the evaluation of school employees.
- Provides oversight for student discipline at the district level including functioning as the district hearing officer.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Physical Requirements (if applicable)
- This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force.
- Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires walking and sitting and occasionally requires standing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting.

- Ability to organize, plan, think creatively and administer existing programs and recommend to the Superintendent related district programming needs.
- Ability to organize and prioritize activities.
- Ability to plan, develop, implement effective programs and systems.
- Ability to accurately interpret state and federal laws and regulations, Board and school policies in consultation with the Board attorney.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization and administration.
- Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations regarding facilities and construction management.
- Considerable knowledge of the formal bidding process and of local, state and federal guidelines as well as comprehensive knowledge of school construction processes.
- Must demonstrate processing, spreadsheet, and presentation proficiency and be able to generate reports, develop correspondence, and create presentations for meetings and workshops for the Board, district and community.
- Experience in understanding, and maintaining cooperative and effective relationships with co-workers, district administrators, and the public.
- Ability to develop and administer budgets.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
