Reports To: Principal or Assistant Principal
Terms of Employment: Permanent, 10 Month Position
Nature of Work
The employee performs a variety of tasks for the professional staff in the schools, which supports the educational environment in the classroom. The Alternative to Suspension (ATS) Facilitator assists students who have been placed in the alternative to suspension program by providing instructional assistance and encouragement for students to complete assignments. This position requires consistent supervision of students assigned to ATS, ensuring a structured and productive learning environment throughout the entire school day. The ATS Facilitator is responsible for reinforcing school and district expectations and supporting restorative and behavioral interventions as appropriate.
Qualifications and Licensure
- High school diploma and a minimum of 48 hours of college level coursework.
- Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when a student is participating in an inclusive activity
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
- General knowledge of daily routines of the classroom
- Possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom
- Ability to operate common office machines
- Ability to maintain basic files and records
- Ability to motivate students
- Ability to perform general clerical duties
- General knowledge of procedures to follow in the event of an emergency
- General knowledge of the principles of organization and administration
Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitors student behavior and helps maintain discipline in the Alternative to Suspension room
- Monitors the safety and well-being of students
- Contacts parents of absent students
- Assists students with learning; reinforces and clarifies instructions; conducts short sessions on improving study skills; provides one-on-one assistance as needed
- Maintains standardized records and documentation concerning the progress of students
- Performs various clerical duties as needed, maintains records of student progress; checks daily attendance
- Works closely with school administrators to maintain accurate records of student’s referrals and academic progress
- Uses basic technology platforms, including Google Classroom, Docs, email, etc.
- Participates in required staff development trainings and workshops (such as CPI, de-escalation, and student confidentiality)
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Physical Requirements (if applicable)
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including computers, calculators, printers, copiers, etc.
- Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time
- Work occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling
- Work has standard vision requirements
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Work requires observing general surroundings and activities
- Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions
- Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English
- Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
- Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress
