Summary Produces ultrasonic recordings of internal organs and/or extremities for use by the Radiologist in diagnosis of disease and study of malfunction of organs by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Performs ultrasound scanning procedures. Reports preliminary findings on the ultrasound worksheet to the radiologist.
- Takes anatomical images to demonstrate organs.
- Selects equipment for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of examination.
- Explains process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination.
- Selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to organ to be examined, depth of field, and other specifications of exam.
- Keys exam data and patient information into computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results.
- Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
- Records images of internal organs and/or extremities and sends to the PACS for permanent electronic storage. Provides copies of exam on CD for requesting physician(s), as requested.
Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Ultrasound Registered with R.D.M.S. or ARRT
Other Skills and Abilities
Prefer graduate of an accredited ultrasound program
Needs one to two years experience to be fully proficient
