- Oversee recycling collection, processing, and storage activities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and program requirements.

- Coordinate the collection and shipment of recyclable commodities, including cardboard, paper, plastics, metals, electronics, used oil, batteries, and other approved materials.
- Monitor recycling containers and arrange for timely hauling and replacement.
- Track recycling volumes, diversion rates, and related performance metrics.
- Promote waste reduction, reuse, and recycling initiatives to support sustainability goals.
- Assist in developing and implementing public education and outreach programs related to recycling services.
This position ensures safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant disposal and recycling activities while supervising site personnel, assisting customers, maintaining records, and enforcing facility policies and procedures.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs responsible administrative work supervising the collection, sorting, and compaction of Solid Waste for the County.
Supervises employees engaged in overseeing Convenience Center Sites; assists with hiring, training, and providing performance coaching and evaluation for assigned staff; develops and modifies schedules; and ensures safe working conditions and procedures.
Gather daily end-of-day reports to assign drivers on which containers need to be emptied at each Convenience Center Site and coordinate with Landfill Supervisor on emptying containers at Landfill. Review load tickets daily.
Prepare monthly packets to deliver to the Sites the middle and at the end of each pay period to include Timecards, Calendars, and other needed items.
Processes part-time employee timecards and submits them to Solid Waste Assistant Director for review.
Inspects Convenience Center Sites for proper operation and cleanliness, sorting of materials, monitoring disposal at proper collection containers, etc.
Coordinates the procurement of equipment, supplies, and materials for the operation of the Convenience Center Sites.
Researches and recommends policies and strategies for the efficient and effective management of Convenience Center Sites and potential markets for recyclable materials.
Prepares a variety of records and reports regarding personnel, work activities, and procurement practices.
Receives, documents, researches, and responds to customer requests and concerns.
Inspects and insures proper operation and cleanliness of Convenience Center Sites; coordinates preventive maintenance and minor repairs to compactors; coordinates major repairs; coordinates and participates in maintenance and repairs to Convenience Center Sites' buildings (painting, roofing, doors, windows, etc.), grounds (mowing and trimming), fences, roads (spreading gravel, etc.), and other facility needs.
Coordinates equipment maintenance with mechanic.
Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be able to physically perform basic life operations of fingering, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Requires the ability to maintain body equilibrium when bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching and/or stretching arms, legs, or other parts of body to grasp, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical requirements are for Medium Work.
Must have visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform accounting, operate a computer terminal, and do extensive reading.

Minimum Training and Experience
Requires graduation from high school and considerable related experience including some mechanical and supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
Valid driver’s license in the State of North Carolina.
- Possession of Class A or B CDL preferred.
Possession of or ability to obtain Landfill Operations Specialist certification within six months of employment.
Possession of or ability to obtain SWANA Recycling Coordinator Certification.
Intermediate Computer skills in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
