What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Automotive Technician / Mechanic position at Wilson AutoTech?
Automotive Technician / Mechanic – Experienced
Wilson AutoTech | Lewiston, Idaho
Full-Time | Monday–Friday | No Weekends
Wilson AutoTech is looking for an experienced automotive technician who can come into the shop and start producing.
We are less concerned with a specific number of years in the industry than we are with ability. This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for someone who already understands automotive systems, knows how to perform general repairs, and can be handed a repair order without needing to be taught how to do the job.
The right technician will be comfortable working on a wide range of vehicles and repairs—from inspections and oil changes through engine, transmission, differential, diagnostic, and electrical work.
What We Expect
You should be able to independently perform normal automotive repair work, including:
- Vehicle inspections and routine maintenance
- Brakes, steering, suspension, wheel bearings, hubs, axles, and driveline repairs
- Cooling system and HVAC repairs
- Engine mechanical diagnosis and repair
- Timing components and major mechanical repairs
- Engine, transmission, and differential removal/replacement
- Mechanical noise and drivability diagnosis
- Starting and charging system diagnosis
- General electrical diagnosis and circuit testing
- Reading wiring diagrams
- Using a multimeter for powers, grounds, voltage drop, resistance, and normal electrical testing
- Using scan tools and diagnostic equipment
- Using service information to develop and carry out a repair or diagnostic plan
- Verifying repairs before the vehicle leaves the shop
We do not expect one technician to solve every difficult electrical or diagnostic problem alone. Advanced diagnostic support is available when needed. However, you should be able to work through normal mechanical and electrical diagnosis independently before asking for assistance.
Who We’re Looking For
We want someone who:
- Shows up ready to work
- Wants to stay busy and produce
- Works independently without constant supervision
- Takes pride in doing the job correctly
- Is willing to perform the entire range of shop work, including inspections and oil changes when needed
- Documents findings and repairs properly
- Communicates well with the service department and other technicians
- Takes care of customer vehicles, tools, and shop equipment
- Is dependable and consistent
- Wants to continue learning and improving
- Understands that productivity and quality both matter
We are looking for someone who wants to work and make money—not someone looking for the easiest possible day.
Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of automotive systems
- Ability to perform general automotive repairs independently
- Mechanical diagnostic ability
- Basic electrical diagnostic ability
- Valid driver’s license and ability to road-test customer vehicles
- Own basic automotive hand tools
- Reliable attendance and professional attitude
ASE certification is strongly preferred. If you do not currently hold an applicable ASE certification, you must be willing to obtain certification within an agreed-upon period after hire.
