Identifies, recommends, and defends individual investments and/or implementation vehicles to improve portfolio outcomes for clients.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct fundamental bottoms- up research on a variety of companies, analyzing underlying drives, financial metrics, competitors, customers and suppliers
- Maintain coverage responsibility of assigned industry sectors
- Co portfolio management duties of a technology-oriented portfolio
- Perform administrative tasks as needed for marketing, compliance, and risk purposes
- Recommend appropriate positions in assigned sectors for various equity strategies
- Serve as proven investment thought leader for the investment management organization
- Work with client-facing colleagues to strengthen their understanding of investment solutions
- Participate in client and prospect meetings to help solidify current relationships and win new business
- Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management
- Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable
- Complete other related duties as assigned
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience
- Strong understanding of capital markets
- Current knowledge of the state of the investment management industry
- Highly analytical
- Research-driven skill set
- Experience communicating insights to internal and external stakeholders
- Experience mentoring and developing less experienced teammates
- Experience working in a team environment
- Experience operating effectively within a large organization
- Network of industry contacts
- Advanced degree
- Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience
- CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) or progressing toward obtaining CFA designation
- Demonstrated track record of successful investment management
