Business Risk and Control Analyst III

About Our Team

The Risk and Control Management team, operating within the First Line of Defense for Institutional Services and Wealth Management (ISWM Risk), plays a critical role in safeguarding the organization by ensuring robust risk management practices. Our team is responsible for risk identification, assessment, control design, testing, and ongoing monitoring to maintain a strong control environment that supports business objectives and regulatory compliance.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated professional with hands-on experience in Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA) and control testing. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of risk frameworks and testing methodologies, and will partner closely with ISWM business owners to evaluate control effectiveness, execute control testing, and provide actionable insights that strengthen the risk and control framework.

Primary Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and report on the business unit’s risk-based testing program in alignment with established standards.
• Develop testing plans, scripts, and cases, identify appropriate test populations, and perform control testing according to schedule.
• Evaluate control design and operating effectiveness, assess identified risks, and confirm mitigation in accordance with M&T’s Risk and Control Policy, procedures, and standards.
• Communicate observations and findings clearly to management and stakeholders.
• Assist in creating findings and action plans to address gaps and improve controls.
• Proactively monitor assigned book of work for changing risks, timely execution, and required management updates.
• Support ad hoc projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing the maturity of the control environment across ISWM.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
• Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
• Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.
  
  

Education And Experience Required

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years' higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience
• Strong understanding of control testing methodologies, including control design and operating effectiveness testing.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $82,100.00 - $136,900.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
