Purpose:
Performs technical procedures using ultrasound waves that require independent judgment based on knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and the normal and abnormal variation.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Verifies patients identification and physician’s orders.
- Prepares patients for exams and explains procedures while performing studies.
- Obtains pertinent diagnostic examinations for physicians in relation to the ultrasound.
- Correlates the clinical history with the test to be performed.
- Consults with referring physicians regarding patient’s previous history and decision of appropriate ultrasonic procedures required.
- Perform the ultrasound ensuring the transducer is capturing images of every angle/section that must be assessed.
- Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients
- Maintain patient records and add medical notes related to the ultrasound procedure. Send images to PAC’s system.
- Maintain ultrasound equipment and sterilize the room in which the procedure takes place.
- Maintain patient care areas with appropriate supplies
- Attend staff meetings or other company sponsored or mandated meetings as required
Other Duties:
Perform additional duties as assigned by manager.
Qualifications:
Required:
- American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) Certified.
- CPR Certified.
- Thorough understanding of their ultrasound equipment, including knobology and camera settings.
- Must have basic computer skills including Microsoft applications.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred:
- One year experience as a Radiologic Technologist or in a hospital/imaging center.
