Wilmington Friends School is a Preschool to 12 Quaker, college preparatory, day school located in Wilmington, Delaware and enrolling approximately 700 students.

Wilmington Friends School is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Assistant Director and Early Years Coordinator for the After School Program (ASP) during the 2026-2027 school year. This position requires someone who loves working with children and understands the developmental needs of preschool and elementary aged students. The hours of this position are from 12:30pm-6:00pm daily. This role is considered to be part-time. Individuals are required to work during childcare when school is typically not in session. Childcare weeks take place in late August, late December, mid-March, and mid-June.

The Assistant Director/Early Years Coordinator of the After School Program (ASP) assists in overseeing program development, especially for students in Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten. Works with the Director to help set goals and guidelines to provide recreational activities for ASP students. Assists in supervising the recruitment and training of employees, and monitoring the daily operations to ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently.

Duties And Responsibilities Include

  • Maintaining records for Early Years Licensing, including engaging in communication with the Early Years Teaching Team, to ensure Professional Development and training needs are met and recorded properly
  • Creating Early Years menus and updating monthly planning documents for display outside of each PS and PK classroom
  • Participating in childcare planning and preparations to ensure successful programming
  • Communicating the goals of the EY ASP program and childcare to counselors and parents
  • Designing and leading age-appropriate experiences and structures for EY ASP children
  • Mentoring the EY ASP counselors to work with students within those structures and meet the goals of the program on an ongoing basis
  • Designing and preparing the ASP Newsletter for distribution to families and internal stakeholders
  • Supporting counselors to resolve conflict with children - teaching them strategies to navigate difficult situations and stepping in when necessary to take the lead
  • Communicating with parents proactively and/or reactively to update them on their child’s experience in a timely manner
  • Working with the Administrative Assistant and outside clubs to organize a variety of activities for children
  • Managing the supplies needed for group activities (i.e. arts and crafts)
  • Supervise the bathroom schedule and supplies, including diaper changes as needed
  • Attending the Open-House events and being an active spokesperson for the After School Program
  • Providing interview support, especially during the summer, to hire counselors for the upcoming school year.
  • Attending summer meetings to discuss planning for the upcoming school year
  • Helping with the counselor schedule to ensure coverage of each group is properly staffed and sure ratios are in compliance daily.
  • Participating in childcare and conference care planning and preparations to ensure successful programming
  • Completing training in Emergency Response Plan, first aid, AED, blood borne pathogens and WFS major policies and guidelines.
