About the PositionThe City of Wilmington is seeking an experienced and dependable Wastewater Plant Operator II to join our team. This position plays a key role in operating and maintaining the City’s wastewater treatment facility, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
This position is a classified, non-competitive role as approved by the Civil Service Commission on September 16, 2025, classifying Wastewater Operator I–III as non-competitive classified positions for both hiring and promotion. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Key Responsibilities

• Operate and regulate pumps, valves, and other essential plant equipment to support treatment processes.
• Maintain records and prepare reports related to plant operations, including EPA-required documentation.
• Conduct process control and lab analysis in support of NPDES permit compliance.
• Serve as backup Operator of Record for the wastewater plant and/or collection system as necessary.
• Assist with maintenance and repair of tanks, pumps, motors, lift stations, and vehicles.
• Perform housekeeping and grounds maintenance, including mowing and snow removal.
• Notify supervisors when chemicals are needed and assist with monitoring and sampling equipment.
• Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
• Respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours as needed.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Compensation and Benefits

• Starting Hourly Rate: $25.10
• Shift Differential: Up to 10% may apply
• Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, paid leave, and participation in OPERS (Ohio Public Employees Retirement System).
