Job Summary: The Camp Counselor role is responsible for overseeing 8-10 children in their assigned group each day to create projects, games, and lead campers to scheduled weekly activities. Weekly activities may include but are not limited to sports and games, free swim, beach, other outside activities and chaperoning field trips.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Supervise campers at camp site, create and implement weekly lesson plans, attend field trips or outings and prepare materials for distribution
- Actively support the agencys risk management protocol that will effectively control and reduce accidents
- Become familiar with safety procedures, practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by Wilmette Park District including, but not limited to, fire, severe weather and evacuation procedures.
- Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Safety Committee, attend and participate in required safety trainings
- Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor
- Maintain safety of campers at all times, including pool, bus and field trips
- Maintain good communication with parents, children and Park District staff
- Responsible for administering minor first aid if needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs
Required Skills/Abilities (Technology, Mathematical, Language):
- Possess sound judgment, tact and diplomacy when dealing with a variety of personality types
- Skilled in problem solving, creating contingency plans, and handling emergencies
- Organizational skills, attention to detail, initiative and independence with the ability to work as a team

- Excellent verbal skills and the ability to communicate professionally with parents/guardians and other Park District staff
Education and/or Experience:
- At least 15 years of age or older
- A minimum of one year of related experience working with children
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Ability to work in all-climate weather
- Must be comfortable getting into a large body of water if applicable
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at any given time
- Tolerate a moderate noise level
- Frequently required to stand, walk and sit, climb or balance, and push/pull objects
