SUMMARY:
Under the direction and supervision of the Building Services Foreperson, the Facility Maintenance I is responsible for performing a variety of building maintenance duties to maintain and/or repair Park District facilities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- None
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates park district vehicles and equipment
- Maintains and repairs walls, floors, ceilings and other interior and exterior building surfaces
- Cleans and paints interior and exterior surfaces
- Moves furniture, equipment and various supplies as needed
- Inspects, maintains and repairs fire prevention, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, pools and security systems of district facilities
- Completes inspections forms and reports on a periodic basis
- Maintains inventory of custodial supplies for each facility
- Performs a variety of cleaning duties to maintain an acceptable appearance to both interior and exterior areas of district facilities
- Performs all work promptly and safely with a high level of detail
- Actively contribute to the Park District's sustainability goals
- Actively uphold and contribute to the Wilmette Park District Comprehensive and Strategic Plan, including the Guiding Principles and Strategic Priorities
- Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidents
- Obey the safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that is pertinent to the activities conducted by the department
- Become familiar with and follow safety procedures of the Wilmette Park District including, but not limited to fire, severe weather and evacuation procedures
- Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions observed to immediate supervisor, Human Resources/Risk Management division
- Attend and participate in required safety training
- Report all accidents and incidents that occur under area of responsibility to Building Services Foreperson
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- One to three months related experience and/or training preferred
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Must hold a valid Class D driver’s license
- Must possess CPR/First Aid certificates within three months of hiring, provided by the Park District
- Must obtain a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) in the first year
- Complete annual District trainings including, but not limited to, Sexual Harassment Training annually and Mandated Reporter every three years
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:
Possess computer skills with the ability to learn and use new computer software. The Park District uses Microsoft Office Suite.

HOURS:
- Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, hours may be adjusted based on the season and need, with extra hours required at various times
- On call at all times for emergencies when necessary
- Work over the Independence Day Celebration is mandatory.
- General hours of duty will be approved by the Building Services Foreperson and Superintendent of Parks and Planning
