Salary: May be granted a maximum of five years experience for documented experience.
Purpose Statement
Willowbrook High School is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to serve as Choral Music Director for our fall musical. This position plays a vital role in supporting the artistic and educational goals of the program through high-quality vocal instruction and collaboration with the production team.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Select, prepare, and distribute vocal music for auditions.
- Provide professional assessment of students’ vocal abilities at auditions.
- Collaborate with the director to develop and implement a comprehensive rehearsal schedule for music instruction.
- Instruct and rehearse cast members in all vocal music (mid-September through early November; approximately 2 hours after school, up to 5 days per week, with scheduling flexibility).
- Refine and polish student voices throughout the production for articulation, projection, and musicality.
- Conduct vocal warm-ups prior to performances (6:30 PM).
- Coordinate with the choreographer to ensure alignment between rehearsal music and any rehearsal recordings.
- Serve as liaison with the orchestra conductor during the sitzprobe rehearsal.
Required and Preferred Qualifications:
- Communicate clearly and professionally.
- Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary production team (e.g., technical staff, choreographer, orchestra conductor).
- Proficiency in piano accompaniment.
- Prior experience in choral direction and/or musical theatre music direction preferred.
- Strong instructional skills, with the ability to motivate, support, and challenge student performers.
