POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties required to operate, maintain, and repair the facilities of the wastewater collection system.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Reports to the Director of Public Works, Foreman, Sewer Operator or Designated Job Leader.
Essential DUTIES
· Basic knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in wastewater collection and treatment systems.
· Basic knowledge of sewer pipe installation, connection and repair.
· Basic knowledge of wastewater pumping station plant operation and maintenance.
· Skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment.
· Ability to perform process control calculations.
· Ability to observe proper safety regulations and precautions.
· Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
· Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instruction.
· Works alongside the Sewer Operator to maintain the facilities of the sewer collection system and pump stations to ensure the safe and efficient transfer of wastewater through the Township, based on the knowledge and skills above.
· Operates equipment and utilizes a variety of hand and power tools to operate, maintain and repair the sewer collection system.
· Operate sewer department vehicles and accessories.
· Maintains rights-of-way, building and properties used for the collection and transfer of wastewater.
· Records information and files reports for equipment operation and wastewater flows.
· Responds to emergencies outside normal working hours to correct conditions that affect the safe and efficient operation of the wastewater collection system.
· Must be available for scheduled and emergency overtime regarding Township facilities and streets.
· PA One calls, mark-outs, responses and all other responsibilities.
· Assist Public Works Operation with snow removal and other tasks as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS
· Education: High School graduate/GED equivalent or Trade School graduate preferred
· Experience: Minimum 1-3 years sewer operations or mechanical trades
· Certified satellite wastewater system operator (DEP) preferred.
· CDL Class B with air brake endorsement and tank endorsement preferred. Must be capable of obtaining.

· Work is regularly conducted in a busy shop/garage environment and outdoors.
· Personnel work under field conditions with unavoidable exposure to inclement weather and a variety of hazardous conditions such as dust, fumes, and dangerous road conditions.
· All personal protective safety gear will be supplied by the Township and must be utilized by all public works employees. Employees must have the ability to use and wear personal protective equipment and clothing such as hearing protection, eye protection, foot and hand protection and respiratory protection.
