Swim Lessons

Position Summary:

The Swim Lessons Coordinator will provide instruction to the students enrolled in swim lessons and will oversee scheduling and staffing for swim lessons.

Essential Functions:

• Guarantee the safety and well-being of aquatic participants by being alert and aware of potential danger areas.
• At all times, enforce prescribed safety procedures and rules of good behavior and courtesy to ensure a safe and pleasant pool environment for participants.
• Greet and give directions to all pool participants in a warm and friendly manner.
• Instruct swim lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines including having prepared lesson plans.
• Build effective, authentic relationships with students enrolled in swim lessons as well as their parents.
• Conveys correct information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers students and parents to other programs.
• Maintains class records (i.e. attendance, progress reports, schedules, etc.)
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Schedule and manage swim lessons for all students.
• Know and follow all YMCA policies and procedures including those for emergencies and accidents.
• Help Train new Swim Lesson Instructors.
• Keep pool area neat by keeping all pool equipment out of the path of traffic, and immediately reporting to maintenance any unclean or hazardous area.
• Accept and complete other duties that may be assigned as needed.

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must possess a valid YMCA lifeguarding certification.
• Must be CPR, First Aid, AED and Bloodborne Pathogens certified.
• Must be a certified Swim Lesson instructor within 60 days of hire. Instructor/trainer level preferred.
• Completion of Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff.
• Effective written and oral communication skills and ability to market programs to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Physical Demands

• Ability to conduct swim lessons and other activities.
• Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position including swimming, diving, treading water, retrieving items from underwater, moving equipment around pool deck and other physical demands.
