The Williamsport Area School District is accepting applications for an anticipated Distance Learning Coordinator, K-12 for the 2025-2026 school year. The assignment is at Williamsport Area Middle School (WAMS) (subject to the determination of the Superintendent), but will have K-12 responsiiblties. Salary as per the current contract schedule. Job requirements as per job description; PDE Certification in (7-12) or (4-8) English Language Arts; Math, Sciences, or Social Studies required.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR WASD EMPLOYEES:

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION


BASIC FUNCTIONS:


The position of Learning Center Coordinator is primarily responsible for managing the Learning Center and assisting the teachers and school staff in providing support services associated with at risk students assigned to the learning center for the day or period. The individual in this position will be familiar with the needs of students from various cultures and backgrounds. He/she will be familiar with and comfortable using anger management, restorative practices, and conflict resolution procedures. He/she will be comfortable instructing students by modeling desirable behaviors and skills. He/she will possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. He/she will assist administration in monitoring and supervising support staff associated with the Learning Center.


This position is a 188-day position, 7 work hours/day and reports to and is evaluated annually by the Middle School Principal with input from the Director of Student Services.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


The position of Learning Center Coordinator requires a minimum of a Bachelor degree and PDE Certification in Social Studies 7-12; Science related field, or Math and/or English is required. Documented successful experience working with/mentoring/counseling at-risk and multicultural student populations preferred. Previous training in anger management and conflict resolution is required and QBS certification preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


This position requires demonstrated patience and the ability to relate to students, parents and staff members of all cultural backgrounds and experiences. Must have the demonstrated ability to deal with emergency situations, remain calm and diffuse potentially explosive behavior and situations, utilizing the appropriate anger management and conflict resolution skills. Must demonstrate the ability and willingness to conduct home visits. This position requires the physical ability to provide assistance using non-violent, crisis intervention procedures in quelling disturbances.


Requires a valid PA driver’s license, with appropriate insurance coverage limits, and reliable transportation.


AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ( (E) Designates Essential Functions)


  • Works with building principals, teachers, parents, and Student Services staff to teach and model pro-social, desirable behavior and to modify students’ unacceptable or disruptive behavior. (E)
  • Collaborates with building principals, school staff, teachers, students and students’ families in forming positive relationships and modifying behaviors and attitudes. (E)
  • Collaborates with building principals, and school staff to ensure assigned school work is completed by students when they are assigned to the learning center. (E)
  • Implements and facilitaites the Ripple Effects curriculum for use in the WAMS learning Center.
  • Assists in compiling building data across academic subject areas including creating reports as requested by principal and seconday curriculum director.
  • Utiliizes technology to track student attendance, monitor academic performance, and communicate with families on a daily basis. (E)
  • Engages students (primary role) in all settings and under all conditions, including school, home recreational settings, court, and others. (E)
  • Acts as a facilitator between at-risk families and school personnel to improve students’ academic adjustments. (E)
  • Conducts home visits and to address behavior and/or school related issues. (E)
  • Transports students when appropriate and deemed necessary. (E)
  • Participates in restorative practice conferences with peer mediators, advisers, and other school personnel. (E)
  • Regulates the Learning Center environment and is prepared to diffuse tense, disruptive or potentially violent situations, utilizing appropriate anger management and/or conflict resolution skills. (E)
  • Collaborates with school staff to implement consistent behavior management strategies that foster the development of pro-social behaviors among students in the classroom environment. (E)
  • Is able to move throughout the building (all floors) and school grounds, as necessary. (E)
  • Is able to lift one-hundred fifty (150) pounds and push and pull one-hundred fifty (150) pounds. (E)
  • Is able to perform physical activities associated with non-violent, crisis techniques when controlling or preventing potentially violent situations. (E)
  • Is able to speak and write in a clear, concise manner. (E)
  • Teach behavioral replacement strategies. (E)
  • Makes phone/home contacts regarding student attendance issues. (E)
  • Supervises and tracks students during periods of suspension. (E)
  • Effectively manage the Learning Center. (E)
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned by the Principals and/or the Director of Student Services or his/her designee.
