Position Summary

Working Title: TB Prevention Specialist
Direct Supervisor: TB Program Manager
This position provides administrative and clinical support to the Tuberculosis (TB) Program to ensure efficient operations and delivery of high-quality client care.
Primary responsibilities include performing directly observed therapy (DOT) for clients with active TB and directly observed preventive therapy (DOPT) for high-risk individuals with latent TB infection (LTBI), under the direction of licensed TB personnel. In addition to field work, the position supports program operations through various clerical tasks, including data entry into multiple databases, managing referrals, answering phones, monitoring inventory, and completing departmental errands. This is a direct service role with limited independent decision-making. This position is grant funded through December 17, 2026. Continuation of employment beyond this date is not guaranteed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Analytical/Assessment
- Maintains weekly TB team client scheduling.
- Maintains medical records in accordance with state laws and program guidelines.
- Processes incoming referrals, including reviewing for completeness, scanning documents, and entering data into SharePoint and eCw.
- Runs errands and makes deliveries to internal departments or external facilities as needed.
- Monitors medical and office supply inventory and places orders as necessary.
- Prepares purchase orders (POs) and processes invoices.
- Packs and ships sputum samples and other program correspondence or materials.
- Responsible for data entry across multiple databases and spreadsheets.
Policy Development/Program Planning
- Participates in quality improvement (QI) activities to support a culture of continuous CI within the program and division.
- Attends TB program meetings, trainings, and planning sessions to remain informed about current policies and procedures.
- Provides frontline feedback to supervisors to support the development and revision of internal workflows, checklists, and standard operating procedures.
- Collects and enters program data into various databases to support performance tracking and reporting.
- Promotes and follows established public health standards to ensure program activities align with local, state, and federal guidelines.
Communication and Cultural Competency
- Provides basic TB-related health education to clients, families, and external healthcare providers.
- Under direction of TB Nurse Case Manager, communicates with clients to share instructions, test results, confirm appointments, and relay other relevant information.
Public Health Sciences
- Administers DOT for clients diagnosed with or suspected of having TB in Williamson County.
- Completes documentation of DOT and case visits, including entries in medical records, databases, reports, and forms.
- Oversee the SureAdhere VDOT platform, including reviewing videos, confirming dose completion with TB Nurse Case Managers, and updating treatment regimens.
- Handles and transports sputum specimens in accordance with safety and program guidelines.
- Observes and documents potential adverse medication effects and reports findings to TB Nurse Case Managers.
- Assists TB Nurse Case Managers with receiving, organizing, and packaging medications for distribution to clients.

- May participate on a WCCHD committee or task force
- In the event of a public health emergency, employees may be called upon to support WCCHD’s response in ways that are outside the usual scope of their job responsibilities. This may involve working hours that are outside the employee’s usual work hours. Employees will not be required to perform duties that are outside of their competence or professional licensure.

Education, Licensure, Certifications, Experience
- High School diploma required; some college preferred
- Intermediate level of experience with Microsoft Word and Excel required
- 2 years of experience in healthcare-related position preferred
- Bilingual English/ Spanish preferred
- Previous database experience preferred
- CPR certified or willingness to obtain; current certification preferred
- N-95 mask fitted or willingness to be fitted required
- Valid Texas driver’s license and access to reliable transportation to all assigned work locations required
- Selected candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment skills assessment as part of the hiring process, prior to receiving a contingent offer
- Selected candidates in the Clinical Services Division, Environmental Health Division, and WIC Division, will receive a conditional offer of employment contingent upon the candidate passing a pre-employment-controlled substances screening test. The candidate must be tested and receive a negative result before starting to work

Environmental Factors: Works mostly in a well-lighted, air-conditioned office. May work in various WCCHD offices around the county and in a variety of community locations; must have reliable transportation. Occasional work activities may be outdoors and, therefore, employee will be exposed to heat and cold. May have extensive contact with the public. May have contact with persons who may be infected with contagious diseases. Certain immunizations and/or TB skin test may be required. Tobacco/vapor-free workplace.

FLSA Classification: Non-exempt
Location and Hours: 355 Texas Ave., Round Rock, TX 78664. General hours: Monday-Friday 7:00am-4:00pm. This position is subject to daily travel, with reimbursement. Position eligible for flexible schedule and/or telecommuting. While eligible for remote work, may be required to be onsite on planned remote days (i.e., required in-person meetings, on-site trainings, emergency response efforts). Work may require occasional early morning, evening, weekend, and/or holiday hours. Extended hours may be required in the event of a public health emergency.
Job Performance Evaluation: The employee will be evaluated at least annually, but more often if warranted.
