Williamsburg Northside School is a private, progressive institution located in Williamsburg Brooklyn, serving children toddlers through 6 years old (toddlers, 2s, 3s, PreK and Kindergarten). Stemming from the Reggio roots planted in its long-running infant and toddler program, Northside takes a decidedly student-centric approach to learning that puts autonomy, self-discovery, and iterative practice front and center. Position Overview:
Full-time (8:30-4:30/Monday-Friday)
Part-Time (8:30-1:30pm/Monday-Friday)
As an Assistant Teacher at Williamsburg Northside, you will play a crucial role in providing a safe, stimulating, and loving environment for toddlers . You will have the opportunity to create a warm and engaging atmosphere where infants can explore, learn, and grow through play, interaction, and age-appropriate activities.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure safety and well-being of children at all times, including times of free, gross motor play
- Plan and implement age-appropriate activities to stimulate physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Foster positive relationships with parents and communicate regularly about each child's progress.
- Work collaboratively with head teacher to craft developmentally appropriate curriculum that is rooted in the students’ curiosities and interests (Reggio Emilia Approach) and create a cohesive and nurturing classroom community
- Help facilitate classroom activities, as directed by the Head Teacher
- Establish positive and effective family relations through interactive parent communication guided by the head teacher
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment, participating in upkeep routines (e.g. cleaning of classroom furniture/toys, resetting classroom materials, assisting in creating and posting documentation, etc.)
- Attend and participate in regular staff meetings and mandatory training sessions
- Work collaboratively with Administration to set goals for growth and actively work towards meeting these objectives
- Model and facilitate prosocial interactions between all members of the school community
- Under the guidance of the head teacher, facilitate classroom management utilizing the positive discipline approach
- Promote respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion as a core value of the school, a shared responsibility in partnership with the school community
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) or equivalent certification
- Bachelor’s Degree (in a variety of fields) preferred
- Previous experience working with infants in a childcare or educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of infant development and early childhood education principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, creativity, and a genuine love for working with children
- Knowledge of the Reggio Approach (or project-based learning) preferred
- Must meet the Department of Education and Department of Health qualifications as specified in its policy manual (background check & fingerprinting
