Job Summary
This position is responsible for providing professional accounting services to the Finance Department, and training support for staff and school-based personnel involved in managing funds though out the school division.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with Student Activity Funds (SAF) by maintaining the comprehensive SAF procedures manual, performing internal audits, being a liaison with school staff, and assisting with the annual audit.
- Provides on-going training and technical support to users of the division’s financial system and SAF software.
- Audits and reviews travel vouchers, purchasing card transactions, tuition assistance requests and reimbursement requests for payment, ensuring required documentation is received to facilitate processing.?
- Manages cash receipts by researching, recording, and applying payments accurately; prepares and submits deposits, maintains supporting documentation, and ensures compliance with internal controls for cash handling.
- Issues approved purchase orders in compliance with established procedures; maintains accurate records and supports tracking and follow-up to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
- Oversees operational processes for the Finance Department, including communications, documentation, and workflow coordination to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
- Performs research for various issues; prepares spreadsheets, conducts comparative analysis, or special reports when directed.
- Assists with the administration of the Purchasing Cards Program.
- Assists with the preparation of the Superintendent’s Annual School Report (ASR) and the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
- Provides assistance to auditors as required.
- Prepares and enters various journal entries into the financial accounting system.
- Assists with managing Grants.
- Assists with fixed asset management.
- Assists with the accounts receivable function.
- Become familiar with other important functions of the Finance Department as part of a cross-training effort by the entire unit.
- Communicates professionally by telephone, email and in person; answers a wide variety of questions from school employees and external contacts.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent demonstrated experience in fields related to accounting or finance.
- A thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite products, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and databases and perform reliable and accurate mathematical operations.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and follow complex verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate with people effectively and courteously, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school division employees and external contacts.

Performs duties under the general supervision of the Director of Finance. Receives guidance from the Senior Accountant through periodic consultation regarding specific assigned tasks.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Busy office environment with constant deadlines and frequent interruptions. High volume of work requiring establishment of priorities. Must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds.
Salary : $65,187 - $108,409
