English Language Learner ENL Teacher

Our ELA Program

The English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher will be familiar with the Bilingual Common Core progressions and responsible for developing an ENL curriculum appropriate to the NYS mandated regulations for services at the grade/ability level of the student being taught. The ENL teacher will maintain appropriate student records and is responsible for assessing students per NYS regulations. The ENL teacher must be flexible and able to work as a member of a team. The teacher will perform other duties as assigned.

Salary

$68,000 - $90,000


Responsibilities

The ENL/ELL  Teacher will support the Leadership Team by providing instructional support to ensure that all of our students are reading at his or her potential. In addition, the ENL Support Teacher will collaborate with the ELL Specialist to provide professional development to support the sharing of best practices and use of ELL strategies across all subject areas.  The ENL Support Teacher will:

* Actively monitor the progress of ELL learners and work collaboratively with staff to make instructional decisions based on student achievement data.

* Serve as an expert in research-based trends and best practices around ELL learners and instructional supports for low-performing students.

* Monitor ELL program compliance and provide advice to the leadership team on how to better support ELL learners.

* Track and Measure Student Progress

* Create a Positive Classroom and School Culture

* Lead the design, curation, and modification of content-specific assessments and curricula 

* Lead the design of Targeted Support (small group skill development) 

* Lead development of classroom environment, learning, and resources across multiple platforms 

* Collaborate and support team member development

* Facilitate Content Courses (STEM or Humanities with a specialization in a core domain Science, Math, ELA, or Social Studies

* Co-facilitate core (advisory program) 

* Implement Targeted Support (small group skill development) 

* Implement Restorative Justice Structures using protocols

* Modify/develop curriculum and instruction for content classes 

* Participate in a professional learning community with colleagues 

* Facilitate professional learning sessions 

* Observe and provide feedback to colleagues 

* Participate in school committees 

* Assist with coordination of school-wide initiatives

* Assess academic learning competencies 

* Monitor student goal attainment

* Create and implement project-based learning experiences

Qualifications, Education, and Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least two years of experience teaching in an urban high school setting 

  • New York State certification

  • Experience working with English language learners and strong content knowledge of ELL best practices and strategies

  • Fluency in Spanish speech, reading and writing

Academic Responsibilities

  • Teach 5 course periods per day.

  • Attend department and planning meetings.

  • Uphold the tenets of the student covenant.

  • Set and maintain high academic standards for all students.

  • Collaborate with fellow teachers to provide rigorous, standards-based instruction.

  • Utilize student performance data from assessments to inform instructional decisions.
