About the Role
As a Lifeguard, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well‑being of everyone who enters our pool area. You’ll maintain vigilant surveillance, respond quickly and calmly to emergencies, and create an atmosphere where swimmers of all ages feel supported, respected, and confident. Your presence helps uphold the Y’s commitment to excellence, safety, and community care.

Key Responsibilities
- Active Surveillance — Maintain constant, focused monitoring of the pool, deck, and surrounding areas to ensure member safety.
- Emergency Response — Know and follow all emergency procedures; respond immediately and effectively to incidents and complete required documentation.
- Safety Leadership — Apply and uphold all aquatic safety rules, policies, and guidelines consistently.
- Professional Conduct — Remain calm, objective, and solution‑oriented, even under pressure or when challenged.
- Record Keeping — Maintain accurate logs and reports as required by the YMCA and state health codes.
- Equipment & Facility Checks — Inspect equipment, ensure readiness, and identify potential hazards upon arrival.
- Chemical Testing — Perform water testing when not guarding and take appropriate action as needed.
- Team Support — Carry out additional duties as assigned to support smooth and safe operations.
What You Bring
- Minimum age of 15.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (or equivalent) required before starting.
- Ability to maintain the physical and mental readiness required of a lifeguard.
- Successful completion of required YMCA safety trainings within designated timelines.
- Strong situational awareness, sound judgment, and the ability to stay composed under pressure.
