We are a well-established, client-focused public accounting firm seeking a motivated Staff Accountant to join our team. We provide tax, accounting, auditing, payroll, and advisory services to individuals, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and governmental entities throughout our community.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in all areas of public accounting while working alongside experienced CPAs in a collaborative, technology-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

Accounting & Client Services

  • Prepare financial statements, compilations, and other accounting engagements.
  • Perform bookkeeping and monthly accounting services for multiple clients.
  • Prepare and reconcile general ledger accounts and journal entries.
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, loan, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist clients with accounting software and bookkeeping questions.
  • Prepare payrolls and payroll tax filings.
  • Prepare sales tax returns and other state and local tax filings.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Analyze financial information and identify discrepancies requiring investigation.
  • Maintain accurate workpapers and documentation in accordance with firm standards.

Tax Services

  • Prepare individual, partnership, corporate, fiduciary, estate, gift, and nonprofit income tax returns.
  • Prepare quarterly estimated tax calculations.
  • Research federal and state tax issues.
  • Assist with tax planning and year-round consulting for clients.
  • Communicate with taxing authorities regarding client matters as needed.

Audit & Assurance Services

  • Assist in planning and performing financial statement audits, reviews, and agreed-upon procedures.
  • Prepare audit workpapers and supporting documentation in accordance with professional standards.
  • Perform audit testing of cash, receivables, inventories, fixed assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenses.
  • Evaluate internal controls and document accounting processes.
  • Assist in preparing financial statements and required disclosures.
  • Participate in audits of nonprofit organizations, governmental entities, and privately held businesses.
  • Prepare management letter comments and recommendations for improving internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Travel to client locations as necessary to perform fieldwork.

General Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple client engagements while meeting deadlines.
  • Research accounting and auditing standards and communicate findings effectively.
  • Respond professionally to client questions and requests.
  • Stay current on accounting, auditing, and tax regulations through continuing education.
  • Work collaboratively with partners and staff to provide exceptional client service.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the highest ethical standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA license or active pursuit of CPA certification preferred.
  • 1–3 years of public accounting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and federal and state tax regulations.
  • Experience with financial statement preparation and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience with audit engagements is preferred.
  • Experience with payroll processing and payroll tax reporting is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with accounting, audit, and tax software is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness to travel locally to client locations during audit engagements.
