JOB GOAL:  

 

To provide supplemental literacy and dyslexia intervention related instruction that will enable students to efficiently master the reading and writing skills appropriate to age, grade level, and individual capacity.

  

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

 

This position is Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days), plus a benefits package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and LRSD’s salary placement guidelines. FLSA: EXEMPT.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Arkansas teaching certificate in Elementary Education K-6 or P-4.
  2. Master’s degree in education, curriculum, instruction, or reading preferred.
  3. Experience in teaching reading/literacy instruction and/or intervention in elementary grades preferred.
  4. Must hold or be willing to complete within two years: Arkansas Reading Specialist
  5. Certification or Master’s Degree (or higher) in Reading preferred. Must also satisfy RISE requirement and any other related job requirement(s) as determined by the Arkansas Department of Education. Dyslexia Therapy Certification is a plus.
  6. Preference will be given to candidates with recent, successful experience in similar roles.
  7. Ability and willingness to use current and upcoming technologies within instruction and support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

  1. Evidence of the ability and willingness to successfully integrate the PLTW curriculum where feasible for PLTW Launch.
  2. Embrace the K-8 school configuration and best practices with high expectations and promote student success while adopting a student-centered focus that allows students to grow socially, emotionally, physically, and academically.
  3. Supports the vision and mission of JA Fair Preparatory School by working collaboratively with the administration and ALL staff to create a positive, safe and kid friendly learning environment.
  4. Demonstrates strong work ethics, a passion for creativity and always open minded to new and innovative ideas.
  5. Participate and successfully complete the required Project Lead the Way June 7-10 (PLTW) and The Leader in Me professional development beginning June 1-4 (LIM) and continuing throughout the school year, both on and off contract.
  6. Administer literacy and dyslexia assessments identified by the Elementary Literacy Department to identify those students in need of services and document progress throughout the year.
  7. Teach daily supplemental instruction to groups of students utilizing the established instructional framework with fidelity.
  8. Maintain instructional and assessment records for each student including lesson plans, progress reports, records of oral reading, attendance, and writing development.   
  9. Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure seamless instructional support, determine when students reach grade-level expectations, and ensure students apply learned skills in the classroom.
  10. Monitor progress of children who exit supplemental instruction/intervention. Conduct end-of-year assessments on all students served to document growth and continued progress.
  11. When possible and not in lieu of serving students, participate and facilitate school-based literacy team meetings to serve as a resource for best practices in literacy and/or dyslexia instruction.
  12. Maintain and submit required data to LRSD Elementary Literacy Department on students served.
  13. Participate in creating an environment conducive to the learning and growth of all children.
  14. Regularly communicate student progress to parents.
  15. Support district and state literacy/dyslexia initiatives and school-community partnerships to advance literacy achievement within the assigned school.
  16. Manage multiple groups of students, maintain a consistent instructional schedule (minimize disruptions), and complete tasks within established time frames.
  17. Perform other literacy and/or dyslexia related duties as assigned.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
