Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Safety Manager at our terminal in Michigan City, IN. The Safety Manager will oversee the development, implementation, and enforcement of safety programs, including:
- Monitor and enforce Hours of Service (HOS) compliance
- Review and act on ELD violations daily (Samsara)
- Track driver behavior using camera systems and safety scores
- Investigate accidents and determine preventability
- Manage workers compensation, liability, and accident claims
- Maintain DOT compliance and audit readiness
- Oversee Driver Qualification (DQ) files
- Conduct driver onboarding and safety training
- Review DOT inspections and submit DataQ challenges when needed
- Enforce driver discipline and safety policies
- Coordinate with service and recruiting departments
Qualifications
- Previous trucking safety manager/coordinator position experience required
Experience with:
- accident investigation
- driver coaching and discipline
- compliance and audit preparation
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-responsibility environment
Strong knowledge of:
- FMCSA & DOT regulations
- Hours of Service (HOS)
- ELD Systems (Samsara preferred)
- Class A CDL preferred, not required
